Even aftermarket alloys are considered mods, stainless exhaust, led lights etc
Digging up an old one here but I’m in the same situation. How did you provide proof?I spent some time today looking at the Thatcham site and trawled through this forum looking at old posts in this thread and some other threads and have managed to work out that the factory fitted Nissan Anti Theft System (NATS) in the E51 is the same as the one in in Nissan Micra which qualifies as a Thatcham Cat 2 system. The main difference between Cat 2 and Cat 1 seems to be the addition of an alarm to an already installed immobiliser. Some companies will sell a kit for that.
Armed with this information I phoned Greenlight to ask if the addition of an alarm to what I already have would satisfy the need for a Cat 1 system. The chap I spoke to today said that it's the immobiliser that they are really interested in and that an alarm wouldn't really be needed, I asked him if he was sure so he went silent to confirm with a colleague. This colleague has an imported 370Z which has the same immobiliser and they definitely accept it without need for additional work. All I need to do is provide proof that it's fitted and working.
If I remember correctly I got Vine Place, the importer and converter, to write either a letter or a note on some paperwork that NATS was fitted and working.Digging up an old one here but I’m in the same situation. How did you provide proof?
Hi!
I'm trying to get all the information I can before taking the plunge... Insuring an Elgrand seems like a mine field!!
I have tried a couple of places and they're asking questions I am struggling to answer... Found the NATS answer in this thread (thank you)
Couple of questions... Is a conversion classed as a Car or Van ?
Is a Camper Conversion a 'Modification'?
How would I find out the BHP?
Failing that... Does anyone have a rough idea of annual insurance premium for such a vehicle
Any info welcome!
Thanks
Awesome, thanks for that@Zara
- DVLA classes my camper as an MPV & PLG on the V5c.
- My camper is insured fully comp with Greenlight Insurance Services Limited for £369.35 (they give a discount to club members - see Partner Site Links). A camper conversion is a modification as is LPG conversion. I have 9+ years no claims bonus, off road parking, don't commute to work, and I went for a limited mileage of 6000 a year on an insured value of £24k. I also live in a NE post code area not an SR one which makes it cheaper for me
- I believe my engine should be in the range of 185-210 BHP but I have never had that tested.
@Leontgiscombe going through some paperwork today I saw that I got Vine Place to write a note on the sale paperwork regarding the NATS being in working order.
Weren't the cheapest for me, I went with Greenlight in the second year, looking around for year 3 now.found Adrian flux to be the cheapest and best for most of my jdm cars
