Insuring your Elgrand

is that adrian flux ? i used to have my TT insurance through them, they became flux direct, and then sterling insurance from memory.
Yeah. I've heard countless poor stories.
Mind you, I tried 'Jap Cover' when I insured mine. Hour of my life I'll never get back. Came back a few hours later with a quote from some outlet which had google reviews which would make you hair curl (can't remember the name, some mickey mouse company I'd never heard of)....which were about £100 MORE than Admiral!

I'd been hearing horror stories about massive premium increases but when my truck renewal came through recently from NFU at a mere 7% more I thought these big price hikes wouldn't apply to me.

However, when I opened the letter with a picture of a bulldog on it I learned otherwise as Churchill wanted 77% more! A bit of internet searching and a conversation with a nice lady called Megan (no, not that one) got it down to 48% which is still too much but what can you do? Is it any wonder so many take a chance and don't bother?

Cheers,
John

From what I can tell the price varies depending on lots of factors Who are you trying? What kind of miles are you planning? Do you have any modifications? What is your age bracket? etc.

Have you tried price comparison sites? I am with Admiral, due to my age. limited mileage and no mods etc, my quote was around £350.

I've just paid 800 quid for the year with Aviva. Could have got it for about 600 a year but that was bargain basement fully comp but no other vehicles cover (even third party). Used to be less than 500 (Adrian flux) with agreed milage but I'm doing more now (still less than 10k) and they know from the MOT data.

Adrian flux was coming out around 800 but to pay monthly they add 30 odd percent APR!
When I called to cancel they reduced it but not by much. Told them to stick it. Been with them for 6 years and they try that shit on every year. 15 years NCB, knocking 40. No accidents, no speeding etc. Probably paid slightly more with Aviva in the end but at least I know they'll actually pay out if I have a bump etc. I have fully comp cover for other vehicles so it's pretty much like for like with the AF cover.

I am with Admiral also for my new (to me) car. Was with LV but they said they don’t insure Japanese imports anymore.

Have you tried Greenlight?

I had lots of problems trying to get insurance on my E52, as they don't show up on many databases.
Greenlight 560 ish with 5k year only fully comp,no commuting but that didn't bother me as I use my car to go to work.

Greenlight have LV as underwriters via the import section called Highway.

I am insuring my Elgrand with Green Light insurance, I pay around £400 premium. Give them a call

I have used Greenlight for 3 or 4 years now, this year came in at £385 fully comp , limited mileage and all mods declared and I have a few mods lol ( and last year they used LV)
They prefer cars with mods

What's your mileage limited to? Ran a quote with 8000 (1000 of which business....).

Shiny new E52 owner here.

Looking at the last few posts there definitely seems to be a premium on E52 policies.

Gocompare and Uswitch both found my car.

Moneysupermarket and comparethemarket couldnt find it.

Greenlight requires a credit check for a quotation which seems unnecessary.

Directline came in at £960 p.a.

All said and done went for Admiral ‘platinum’ for £56 a month includes breakdown, courtesy, legal etc. 5 star defaqto.

Criteria - 7k miles pa, 9 years+ NCD, Wife as main driver

I have found occupation makes the biggest difference in price. I can save almost £200 by changing mine from hgv driver to accountant. They say I'm more likely to be involved in an accident became of being on the road continuously, despite being a company lorry under a companies insurance 🙄
Annoyingly cover for a non JDM is about 70% cheaper

After reading horror stories about renewals here, I just checked mine.
Due in 3 weeks with Admiral.
£345.00 which has made my day actually 🤩

(They must have heard what a fantastic driver and all-round nice guy I am though)

Mine waa £250 3 years ago, £330 last year, current renewal £375 with direct line. Pretty annoyed with that price, it doesn't even work so haven't driven it for 2 months! Difficult to know if i should actually renew when I haven't got anyone to replace my exhaust manifold yet!

In my experience the credit checks for a quote are soft ones which didn't go on my record, I think they are used as confirmation of address but they will see other information.

That's correct. Every insurer will do a soft credit check. These do not affect your credit rating. A full credit check is only done if you elect to pay monthly as you are in effect taking out a loan.

I have had a LV multicar policy for the last 5 years now which covered 3 cars including my Elgrand,,

The other 2 cars are group 50 for insurance both being quite powerful V8's.

One of these is my wife's daily driver and is covered for twice the miles than the Elgrand and the other although being covered for less miles than the Elgrand has nearly 600 BHP

On renewal the cost has gone up from £631 to £924 for all 3 with the Elgrand being £363, the highest cost of the 3. (up from being the cheapest 3 years ago and being the 2nd highest last year).

To me it seems that LV do not want to insure the Elgrand which ties in with what others have said and although they have offered to renew are pricing themselfes out

I have now insured the Elgrand on a like for like basis with Admiral for £251 and left the other 2 with LV for £561 ((they gave me a bit of discount) making a total of £812.

It was cheaper to do it this way as a multi-car policy for all 3 cars with Admiral was nearly £300 more.

Still an increase of £181 on last year but still cheaper than leaving all 3 with LV
