Daylight Running Lights - interested to see what you’ve installed

Quick up date, played with the indicators first, as i can get to these without removing anything. The positive wires are two coloured (striped) and the negatives are a solid colour.
Im hoping the side lights for the drl is the same :joy:

I think if I had been aware of the hassle (I was aware it was going to be challenging, but not that challenging) and unexpected consequences I would probably have decided to have an easy life and keep it standard!

Hi @Ian H , I was adding some flow indicator LED's today and I've managed to do something akin to making all the front and sides now fail to work, is this what happened to you and what is the diagnostic route to check if I have fried the PCB, and where is the PCB??

Here are the 45cm LEDs from Amazon. As you can see, they are bright.
Took a lot of trial and error to get here. Some LEDs from eBay were faulty, or developed faults during modification and general handling.
The amber indicators also work well. I tapped into the AFS fuse in the engine bay for the running lights, and used these Amazon wire connectors for the indicators. This provides the feed for the indicator and negative connection for amber and white lights.
Pleased with the results, lets see how long they last.

I had the same thing on daisey but on top of headlight,,, the leds started to fail on the day running and had to take them off .. still have the wiring inside piggy backed fuel pump fuse for dtr..Adrain aka Winchester installed them for me .. let me know how your leds get on ie last ..they do look good …
 
Theres also a fuse box under the bonnet where you can find an ignition feed and use a piggy back fuse and connect that way

Hi, What size is the fuel pump fuse piggyback on Elgrand E51?
 
Just as a PSA on piggyback fuses. I have used a few, but used one on my daughters old Fabia and it burnt out the fuse for the cabin fan, as the quality was poor, so I had to look for a lower draw take off point. I'm not a fan of them, and would look to find a better power take off point if poss. I no longer use them
 
It may be wise to wire a resistor with some of these led lights, they are going to be rated hot even at 12v, meaning they will be wired to be as bright as possible at rated voltage as most of these manufacturers aim for, probably in an attempt at countering voltage drop on longer runs. They will likely not last very long running at 14v.
 
Had mine wired in on a piggy back fuse for over 3 years now and they are still going strong. Probably jinxed it now and blow up tomorrow 😂

I wish I could help, I'm sure there is a formula but I'm not good with maths. I have a big tray full of different resistors and other passives from various attempts at projects over the years, so if I ever need to do this I just try different ones to get the desired effect.
 
330 ohm is my favourite resistor.
