Couldn't agree more. The "logical" outcome would probably have been bemoaned too, but the red flag option seems so obvious.

Martin Brundle made an awful lot of valid points especially the "lobbying" point putting pressure on the referee, Charlie Whitehead would not have tolerated it and may well have penalised it.

Reminds me of the old joke about the Mercedes pit crew...
"Mercedes have announced today that they are saving £30million a year by replacing their entire pit team with four Scousers.
These lads can have the wheels off a Red Bull, respray it silver and get it back on its way in under three seconds. All they ask in return is a bag of whizz, a crate of Stella and a picture of Lewis's missus naked in the shower"

What about Masi with his decision starkly contrasting his stance taken at the Eifel Grand Prix In Germany, back in October 2020.
In that race, McLaren driver Lando Norris was left in a precarious position after a power unit issue prompted smoke and fire to come from his car, and Masi was later criticised for ordering a safety car and then allowing it to stay out for a prolonged period.
”There’s a requirement in the sporting regulations to wave all the lapped cars past,” he later told Motorsport Week.

Sir Lewis Hamilton has been knighted in recognition of a glittering career in Formula 1 just days after he controversially lost out on a record eighth title.
Hamilton was dubbed a knight by the Prince of Wales during a Windsor Castle investiture ceremony on Wednesday, but he declined to speak to reporters afterwards.
He was joined by his mother Carmen Lockhart and was all smiles as they posed for pictures in the castle's quadrangle.
When congratulated on his award, Hamilton said: "Thank you."
The 36-year-old is the fourth F1 driver to be knighted, following in the footsteps of Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart, and the first to be awarded the honour while still competing.
Hamilton was recognised in the New Year Honours list following a record-breaking year in which he eclipsed Michael Schumacher's all-time victory tally and emulated the German by winning a seventh world title.
