WHAT THE FUCK???!!!!

WTF indeed. Just found out that my Elgrand is now arriving a week later than scheduled because it was put on to another boat, so will now arrive over the Bank Holiday weekend, and the one it's on now is heading for the fucking Bermuda Triangle, holy feckin balls!

Plus who names these boats "Morning Crown" FFS, A 'Morning Crown' is that moment before the Guinness babies arrive after a good session!

yep i feel your pain ! My agent rang me a week before it was due and said it is going to be here in the 27th now not the 20th. Anyway was tracking the ship so i knew where she was and lo and behold on the 20th it's in Southampton. So i ring the agent and said is my car here and he says no they offloaded it in germany and it's going to be another week WTF
try @nd make sense of that!!

Yup, I hear you, I pretty much had a similar warning that it would probably change vessel's again, as the older vehicles get bumped for the new ones... It's like being told your Christmas presents will now be arriving in the New Year, lol

My girl's kitten is driving me fucking insane. Keeps trying to climb on to my desk while I'm working and use my arm or leg as leverage. All great if I was a man who wore pants when I'm at home, but I am not. The little c u next Tuesday got a flick and told do "Do one". Eventually he will learn that I am not his scratching post, not matter what my girl says about me when I'm gone.

Fucking cars!

First the Elgrand, now the MX5. The back firing, spluttering, juddering journey across Nottingham just now was just marvellous

Gosh , sorry to hear that blingo.

You are not having much luck with vehicles lately fella.

As Phil and dognero said , hope you get it sorted and enjoy your holiday 😎👍👍👍

I had a Mitsubishi L200 animal pick up before I got my Elgrand.
Worst vehicle I've ever owned ! First the cylinder head gasket went , had that done and a moth later , the gearbox went 😕
Didn't even bother to get it fixed ! Listed it on eBay with the faults and sold it at a loss .
Bought my Elgrand and never looked back !
Why's that "no mirrors":grinning:

Thanks everyone.

It'll be fine I'm sure. It's 25 years old now - you have to expect things to go wrong occasionaly! It isn't showing any fault codes (which is an amusing process to check - plug a bulb in and count how many times it flashes). I reckon it's probably just HT leads. I think I have an old set in the shed but I'm not sure I can face the battle againt foxes, fleas and wasps to get to them.

More worried about getting the Elgrand fixed but will be going on holiday whatever. Will rent something if I have to - at least I'd have working aircon :D

Oi! I have a smart car as my daily driver to work 😂
Well I did until it snapped a belt and now doesn't have a working water pump 😡
1.0 turbo cabriolet....it's a go kart that gets 48mpg and will happily run at 70 with the roof down.
Nowt wrong with that.

I will say it’s great no visiting the fuel station every day .....It’s no Elgrand though😂

Well that's pants. O2 sensor? 🤔
New HT leads seems to have fixed it. It does seem to eat them, think this is the 3rd set I've fitted now.

Major service + MOT at an independent smart specialist....169.95 on their website. Call them and they quote 400 ish.
When I query it's because smart recommend a number of extra bits get done at 50k...New spark plugs £80 Or £122 if the leads are disintegrating, brake fluid change £160.
It's a 1.0 3 cylinder engine with drum brakes on the back. How the fuck do 3 spark plugs, leads and a fluid change come to £280???

Wife says she wants a sports car (open top) in addition to the Elegrand. Wanted something that would squeeze into the garage next to Boris. Initial thoughts were for a Smart Roadster, because of its size , and it looks quite nice. Could probably write a book about the issues associated with these cars. Son-in-law suggested MX5. They look good to me and I could buy a younger one than the Smart car. What think you?

I would go mx5.
More popular and good spares availability

Well, I'm obviously biased because I love them!

Biggest problem with all of them - rust!

MK1 my favourite. Smallest / lightest. They are a bit basic / "raw" compared to the others. Rust on the rear of the sills is the biggest issue.

MK2 / 2.5 a bit more civalised than MK1. Still very good. Rust potentially worse than MK1 - same issues but add in front chassis legs and it is pretty well hidden.

MK3 / 3.5 Arguably the "best" car but quite a bit heavier / bigger. Even these are rusting now.

MK4 Near enough same size / weight as MK1. They are still pretty new and hence not cheap. I have been toying with the idea of getting one but not sure if I actually want a "new" car.

Much depends on your budget. It isn't all doom and gloom with the early ones - there are still some good ones out there, you just have to be careful. A clean one is only going to go up in value - so many are being ruined by the boy racer / drift wannabe / scene kids.

In general, they are often suggested as the goto answer for a cheap, reliable, "sports" car - I can see why. I paid £650 for mine, have had it for 5 years, use it more than the Elgrand, have some great fun in it and really haven't had many issues with it. Mechanically they are pretty bullet proof.

Smart roadster - don't know much about them other than the supposedly awful gearbox and propensity to leak...

I'm by no means an expert on them but if you have any questions, I'll try and help.

(Pop-up headlights NEVER fail to bring me joy)

Thanks for your very detailed reply. Certainly serves to inspire confidence in these machines. Would definitely go for an MX5 10 years old or younger. Would find the Roadster interesting, but I think that I have enough to keep me interested in the Elgrand.

Mx5 defo.
The roadsters is a 0.7l engine and £120 tax. They must pump out pure shite. Plus from owning my fortwo parts are silly money cos it's Mercedes.
