What have you done to your Elgrand today?

My headunit came today, it's a PX6 Android with DSP so one of the fastest released and makes a noticeable difference in audio quality.

Having prepped the dash yesterday, it was somewhat plain sailing. Having plugged it in using the Micra loom, nothing happened, nada, no power. Checked both live and illumination wires with a multimeter and both showed 18.5, which I thought was weird!? But heyho there was power there. I ended up removing the ground wire from the Micra harness, extending it and attached to stereo mounting hole to use as ground.

We had life!

As can been seen, I'm a little ahead of myself. The facia hasn't even arrived yet, but I was keen to sort out any electrical gremlins. Next test was to play some music and check speakers. Again, life to all speakers! Woohoo 🤪

Had a good play around, set up voice calling and Google Assistant. All working and much faster than my old Android stereo in the CRV which used the Allwinner T8 chipset.

The stock Android launcher in the pic above looked garbage, clearly not China's strong point. This has now been changed to my preferred Agama Car Launcer Pro as shown below. The colours blend nicely with the dashboard lights too to help make it look more stock.

Going to have to leave it like this for the next few days until the facia arrives. The hazard light needs plugging back in I suppose before I head out at the weekend.

Will update further once I've tackled steering wheel controls and the facia is fitted 😁

Today was a good day!
The lack of earth in the Nissan loom has instigated numerous help posts on the forum. The usual solution is to ground the casing but your method is equally valid. Nice job.

There were ground wires in place on the Nissan loom, quite where they go and what they do is a mystery as they obviously didn't ground anything lol

Am I correct in saying I need to leave the DVD Nav in place in the glovebox or can this be removed along with the ETC card reader?

If I could remove them, I suppose this would leave me with a big gap that needs filling, but the wife has 7 3D printers for her business, so I could design and print a new storage area.

You'll have to leave the Nav unit in place as it is part of the bigger picture. The 'infotainment system' is highly integrated and relies on all the units to be in place for full functionality. There are ways round some of it but the nav unit has to stay.

Don't need it anymore.

I've spent the last fortnight slaving away on bits and pieces.

And driving out of the carwash on Wednesday evening, I scraped tf out of the two bits of fibreglass bodykit that don't have any visible damage. Took me two cans of emergency lager and an hour or so to calm down from that.

Blimmin' tampin', I was.

Today I fitted the front Tein coilovers and in doing so learnt a valuable lesson.

Lesson of the day is beer and angle grinders don't mix.😱

My wife came out to see how I was doing and I said 'Ive had a mishap with the angle grinder'. Well, she almost fainted expecting me to produce a severed finger. But nothing so gorey.

Despite my efforts at dressing the brake line out of the way, the grinder bit and flicked just enough to put a nick in it. Had I not have taken alcoholic refreshment I suspect I would have been just that bit more careful..

But every cloud has a silver lining and it just means I will have to fit a set of stainless braided brake lines sooner than anticipated.
Good excuse to get braided tho mate;)😃

Elgrand drove lovely today, nipped out to buy some curtains for my hobby room. I just got a pair from the reduced counter and by chance they are a perfect match to the Elgrand seats :joy:. I've been sitting on them too much to have got round to recovering them, must get a lounging chair next.

Completed the front suspension this morning and put it back down on all four wheels. Then, after an interlude for cakes and stuff, took it out for a short test drive and very happy with the firmer ride and lack of body roll, and there were no strange noises and nothing fell off.

I've fitted camber bolts to the front struts also, so It'll need a full wheel alignment now, but I'll drive it for a while to let everything settle down and tweak the ride height if needed before having it done..

Took it for a spin to see if I could find a magical position for the multi-function middle, centre seat thing To stop rattling. No joy. Tried removing the centre, middle seat to See if faffing with it would help. Popped the plastic pin things, side trim wouldn’t budge, got scared I was going to break something (as usual) popped the pins back in, went inside.

lie down and time for a beer.

I think, my dream of becoming a home mechanic just failed.

My front camber comes in spec with standard setup but the rear way out, be interested to see how yours turns out.

I'll be sure to post the results when I have it done.
