Just got van back from the garage, and been looking at the black line on the mirrors. Doesn't seem to have a blind spot effect to me...and wouldn't it more likely be a vertical section at the far end of each mirror, rather than a horizontal section at the bottom of the mirror? Confused about mirrors now...

^ exactly what I thought when I compared to the vertical line on my MX-5. Saying that though, if you google image E51 side mirror, I can't find one WITHOUT the black line on it.

Found a Japanese sticker at the top of the windscreen last night. Here’s the translation

So the melon car verification expired in June last year. Should I be worried? How do I extend my melon car verification?

On a more serious note, any purpose to this bit of rubber pipe? Nothing in it so maybe just helps stop vibration or something? It does sit on a proper plastic knob on the mirror arm so seems to be meant to be there rather than someone has just jammed it in

Previous owner will have put it there to reduce vibration/wobble

Nope - I have a rubber pipe too.

Without it the mirror vibrates and gives double vision.

All sorted. Fella said it was straightforward, and only £115 on the insurance so fingers crossed that's a job sorted. Definitely has the heating elements in too.

Would recommend using insurance if you need a new screen

I wouldn't say they were obvious. Difficult to see in certain lights, as they're in a darkened area of the screen anyway. Best way is to raise your wipers off the screen and walk around the front of the car. The light will often catch the elements at a certain angle

Did you have to explain to the insurance or the company themselves that yours is heated? (excuse me if you've said this earlier in the thread).

Good point about insurance. I never had windscreen cover on mine, as Colin Price said he got someone who can do them. However, given it's heated, and given my renewal is due in a fortnight, I think I'll add windscreen cover.

Yes - originally i hadn't realised it was, then just by chance spotted the elements. I contacted Autoglass who just pushed the booking back a few days to make sure they could source / fit the heated version.

When you call to make the booking, they ask you all about the windscreen type so at that point you can tell them if you have a heated one, ones with built-in aerials or whatever.

Just checked mine and have never noticed that I have the rubber and sticker also, so this must be standard Elgrand.

I also noticed at the same time just to the right of the sticker there is a round black thing stuck to the screen, about the size of a 5p. Does anyone have any ideas what it is. I will take a photo and post it either today or tomorrow.

I used insurance for my rear screen last year when it got smashed, I think the excess I had to pay was £75.

At renewal get windscreen cover added Jas, you never know when you need it, and I don't think it adds that much to the insurance, although I don't know for sure as I have never had a car insured without it. My rear screen was done by Autoglass, and they did a great job.
