I've just done something very silly and a bit embarrassing... The dial points to 30kph in the instrument panel diagnostics link, so I made my dial point to 30 too, but I made mine point to 30mph lol. Looks like I'll be taking it apart again doh!

Tell you what, it was a pita having to resort to removing the instrument cluster and metal bracket to see behind the BCM to see it's 5 digit code to enter into a website to get a pin to enter into NDS2 to reprogram the key to allow the engine to start.

All I did to cause this problem was try to start the car more than 4 times with the battery only just slightly too flat to crank it quickly enough to start the engine. This is something that is likely to happen to many owners and most won't know how to get around it by doing the above.

I still think if Nissan had any sense when making the E51s they should have designed it to allow some sort of procedure to re-register key(s) without having to resort to visit (more like call out since the car would be immobilised) a dealer or resort to the above. The question still stands, is there an owner friendly procedure for this contingency? Anything in the owners manual?

My Launch diagnostic tool has a screen that shows how many keys are registered and if the current inserted key is registered, I resorted to the pita procedure when I saw no keys were registered... The car decided to forget all registered keys because it wouldn't start because the battery was a bit low to crank it quickly enough.

I was attending a production meeting and all the launch engineers were in attendance, the meeting was headed by an engineer who was in charge of production line and rail installation.

He had the best put down I’ve ever heard when he was interrupted by a Gaydon Launch engineer…

I don't see the issue with private plates myself.

Badly misplaced or with dodgy fonts etc I think just look bad.

I like mine but majority of people don't get it or even notice it but for me it was a subtle touch that adds to my Elgrand and hopefully shows I look after her.

I prefer vehicle specific ones a fave one I saw was on a Vauxhall Nova in my boy racer days that read A1.2 NOT the dot being the black screw. The Nova was a sleeper so standard on the outside with a 2ltr red top fitted.

A friend has a standard looking plate but it's his initials the year he got married then his missus initials so means everything to them but doesn't look like a personalised plate and means very little to anyone else.

My wife has a private plate with her initials and our sons, so it doesn't mean anything to anyone else. Mine has my initials and a special number. I see nothing wrong with private plates, as long as they are not doctored in some way to make them look like they read something else.

If you're caught with an illegal number plate, you could face a number of consequences, including up to £1000 fine, MOT failure, or even DVLA withdrawing the registration number permanently for persistent offenders!

Yeah, that Elgrand plate is alright, but by me they're typically adored by guys with 1L, 95hp Fiestas with an 'exhaust',or women with 'Chole', Leah' or 'Kelly' of different incarnations within the plate. For some reason you never see a Harriet, Charlotte or Heidi in a private plate lol.

Is that a keep up with the Jones thing though? I'd imagine that is a chief reason many people get one.
I could maybe see that with, say, a driving instructor. Calling to someone's house in a '16 plate or something probably isn't the best impression, for the keeping up with the Jones type of thing.

I like to keep people guessing on what it is and how old it is.
Many think it's new and are shocked when I tell them it's a 2009.
I have had the plate for ages and it has an X because it means nothing and did not want another letter in front of the 4 which stands for Andy.
HDY is for Hardy.
It's also 5 digits so I can legally have a smaller plate.
Which I think looks better.

I have private plates on my car and Ed, Khal never liked private plates until I bought her one for her new EV and guess what she loves it, mind you had both my plates for years so in todays value they were very cheap, Khal's on the other hand was not cheap. You would probably guess the meaning of the plate on my car, unlikely you would guess the meaning of Ed's and Khal's EV plate's.
