What have you done to your Elgrand today?

How can you do that, then put it back together, yet you can’t find a wire for the reverse bulb.

You are two different people.
Haha...two people?

I used to be schizophrenic but we're better now.

Confidence...something I have struggled with all my life, frightened of making a mistake etc.

When I sorted the reverse lights the other day, I was constantly checking as I went along it case a fault appeared and I could trace my last steps. As I turned on the ignition and everything started clicking and flashing it didn't dawn on me the battery was flat...just assumed I'd fucked something up.

I did the same with the module today. There was a black & white wire already grounded so I made a note to reconnect it after, which I did, and the picture was all fuzzy.

The instructions refer to removing a pink wire if you have a fuzzy picture but I guessed it could be related to the black & white one, I tool it off and hey presto.

Putting all back together, checking as I went, put the last cover on and....fuzzy picture again.

The wire I thought I'd left clear had fell and touched the chassis.

Think there's a few gremlins in there but a couple of surprises I wasn't expecting so let's see how it goes..🤞
Looking much better than this morning, well done. Hope it cured your man flu.

Those lights you have low down in the bumper, what are they? It's possible mine doesn't have a foglight fitted (or, at least, I cannot see a switch for one) and I'm looking about for options. These look great!
I found it/them on a previous thread by @JDM Elgrand.

Amazing! Thank you. How are they mounted, do they just stick/screw into the bumper, or does the bumper need cutting and brackets mounted? How/where do the wires run?

Thanks.
They're a little tricky.

The unit is fully sealed with wires coming out thr back, there's also a piece of plastic on the back that may be used to clip into the car they are designed for but it's not much use to you.

The front clear section has a lip all the way round which overhangs the back section, but it's not equal it's offset, more overhang at the top, about 4mm than the bottom which is about 2mm.

I wanted to set them deep inside the opening so to avoid any damage if you slightly bang the bumper so the only real method available to me was to cut a hole and hope for a push fit.

I cut a paper template of the back and marked it on the bumper. I drilled a series of 20mm holes and then used an hacksaw blade and file to open it out.

When I was happy it was something like I filled around the hole full of clear exterior silicone and also around the lamp itself and pushed it in, wiping off the excess.

The first one I did I cut the hole slightly too big and so aired on the cautious side with the other.

As for the wires.

Take off the internal covers in the boot to expose the bulb holders.

I used the grommet that the sunroof tubes go through which you can see from underneath the car, pull out the tube, feed the wires through, and reinsert the tube.

***Not sure if none sunroof vehicles have the grommet***

If you get to that stage it's just a case of identifying the correct wires and tapping off them.

I can talk you through that bit if you go ahead.

Amazing, thank you. Sounds like I'll need to do some figuring out on how best to get them fitted.

Mine doesn't have a sunroof so I'm not sure if it'll have that grommet. I would assume so, I can't imagine Nissan would have a wildly different chassis for the sunroof/non-sunroof versions so the hole and grommet is probably on all of them.

How bright are the white lights? I'm thinking about wiring a switch into the dashboard to toggle whether the white lights are on when reverse is engaged as I don't want to blind every poor soul behind me when reversing at night if I don't need to light up behind me.

Did I read that you don't have a fog light?

The reason I ask is that I reinstated the original reverse light from the fog light to firstly see if two reverse lights where better than the one piss poor bulb I had. I also upgraded to LEDs at the same time.

I didn't realise at first the lights I bought had dual, in fact triple function, so I now have 4 reverse lights, not sure if that is road legal so I've wired that in a way I can easily disconnect before the MOT.

I'll take a picture of them in the dark to show you how much light they give off, but as I said on the thread, the camera probably isn't brilliant to get a clear picture.

Gotcha. I've definitely got 2 reverse lights and it doesn't look like there are two bulbs in the lenses from what I can see. I suppose it's possible they could also be dual function bulbs, but as mentioned I can't find a switch so I'm reasonably convinced there are no fogs at all.

Reverse lights aren't a legal requirement and aren't tested as part of an MOT, but there may be some regulations around their number and positioning, and now that I've said that I think there are similar rules around position of foglights. If I'm remembering correctly, they must be 300mm up off the road. I'll have a look at the regulations.

Ok, there's a limit of 2 reversing lights, and no single light can be more than 24W if it doesn't have an approval mark, but otherwise their position is free.

Nothing about them being switched, but to avoid issues it's probably best to switch them so that only one pair comes on at a time.

Foglight wise, they have to be at a height between 250mm and 1000mm, and can't come on with the brake lights (presumably to avoid confusion)

OK thanks...I'll find a not too fussy garage then..🤣

Direct fit switches here.
