What have you done to your Elgrand today?

Tidied up my wiring for my DRL lights.
Also rewired all my show lights in the grill to run off a leisure battery inside the bus instead of having to leave the bus running.

I’ve finished getting a functional CanM8 cruise installed, programmed to automatic and got it driving the bus. So now I have tunes and a cruise fitted.

mmmmm...what next. Let me consult my list.

oh yeah, save some money and stop buying crap.

but really, red, eagle eye (x4) lights fitted for a fog light. Oh crap, more electrics. 🙃
Did you do the cruise yourself?

I started work on the brakes today. I have new discs, pads and shoes for the parking brake. I will also be flushing the. Brake fluid. Only managed the front passenger side so far. I will post a pic later.

Did you do the cruise yourself?

sure did. A couple of hiccups along the way but, I could defo do it again. Took about 1.5 hours, taking my time and listening to Ibiza chill tunes. 2 days to work out where I went wrong, but yes, all sorted.

Driven mine back from Cornwall towing my big caravan.

Done well over a thousand miles during the last week, 700 towing the caravan. Used no oil or water, no problems at all :)

Used about 70 gallons of fuel in total... I don't hang about towing the caravan so mpg goes down drastically, the other 300+miles were a mix of round town and steady long drives.

All on LPG except for 1/4 of a tank of petrol. I only used 1/4 tank of petrol because I'd planned on refuelling at Cornwall Victoria services on the way home from Newquay but the fuel court at Victoria was totally cordoned off (no fuel at all available, no apparent reason) so had to do most of the distance between Victoria and Okehampton services (where I refuelled with LPG again) on petrol. Still will have saved £100 or so on fuel on this holiday by running on LPG.

...But I begrudge wasting money on the quarter tank of petrol lol! Normally that much petrol would last me maybe 3 months. It's paying twice as much for fuel grrr!

Also, while driving with the caravan on tow, we had the aircon on the whole time but when I opened a window to smoke a fag it wasn't so bad when running on LPG but was terrible on petrol. Having the caravan on the back seems to cause eddy currents at certain speeds (65/70) to send exhaust fumes through front windows when they're open (as when smoking a fag)... LPG fumes are much nicer than petrol fumes!

So you've been running on petrol with no cats polluting the west country. Shame on you.

Re polished the lower grill

How easy it it to remove? Going to have a proper go at mine which I did 10 mins on and came up so much better, but needs a bit more “power tool” effort to look cleaner.

Remove the reg plate.
Remove the top grill.
Reach down behind the lower grill.
2 10mm bolts in th middle of the grill.
And 2 10mm at each end.
The bolts are on the back of the black bars you can see on the front.
Bottom 2 side ones are easy but the top 2 are more of a challenge.
Small socket and small ratchet.
If you can't get to the top side ones then you will have to loosen the arch liner off to get to them.

Slim arms are a distinct advantage.

Well this makes things easy I was just being very carefull with polisher

Well today was the first time I have drove the Elgrand since Wednesday.
On Wednesday I rewired my show lights.
This involved running a 7 core cable to the secret box where the flare is kept.
Removed the glove box to reveal the heater box.
I could see the grey insulation behind it. The same insulation I could see in the hole.
So I decided to pull the cable through the small bung on the passenger side firewall.
I figured that It would go between the insulation and the heater box.
I cut a section of the insulation out just under the heater box so I could see or feel the wire.
Tried all different wires etc pushed down the hole to see if I could find out where it would come out.
I tried a strong piece of wire slightly thinner than a coat hanger.
It seemed to be doing the job but it got caught on something and It would not come back out.
I left it in, cut off the excess and used 2 tie wraps which did the job.
Everything working and back together.
Job done!..............

So today I had to go to work for a while.
Weather hot so I put the air con and blowers on in the back and the front. (I always run the air con in the back when the front is on)
WTF no fans running in the front.
Oh no I thought. I must have caught the cable for the blowers behind the heater box.
I knew the plug had not come off as I could see that when I put it back together.
So I took all the glove box back off and sure enough the heater fan plug was on nice and tight.
Double WTF.
I looked at the job in hand ie removing all the heater assembly for find the other end of the cable.
I thought I wonder if the fan is stuck?
So I removed the cabin filter so I could put my hand in and spin it.
To my dismay here is the other end of the thicker wire in the fan box.
I have no Idea how it got there as I would assume it would be a sealed box apart from the inlet which should be no where near where I threaded the wire.
With a sharp tug I managed to pull the offending wire out.
Tested the fan and hey presto it sprung to life.

So this is just a little warning to anyone who want to use the little bung to get a cable from the engine bay.
Be Careful.

This is what I have done today.
Sorry I did not get any photos.

At least you found the issue mate with no lasting damage
