Insuring your Elgrand

Crikey. Admiral was best for us and a few others. Deffo best to shop around for sure.
Admiral couldn’t find Elgrand on their system when I called today which I found strange as others have used them. following the advice in the initial post I tried Adrian Flux first £730🥴
Away to try the others now.

Insurance due on 28th best quote for mine so far £320 direct line with all mods declared of which their is a list.

🤪

£270. Quote me happy as a second car on wife’s insurance
Including lost keys and legal cover
Happy with the price I paid 450 last year

Worth trying direct line. I insured my e50 with them a few weeks ago for £250

just insured a 2002 E51 with direct line £195 fully comp 42 year old 9 years NCB two modifications lpg and tow bar well happy as my renewal with aviva was £395.

Hello guys n girls , so we’re finally at the point of needing insurance ( pick up the bus next Saturday ). I got online quotes from a few sites inc flux and direct line and also LV who were are already with on our car. They was all coming in starting at £440 upto a grand. I’m a named driver on our current policy so my mrs has all the NCD. When I rang into LV it only cost £260 to add the new Elgie to our existing policy which is only just shy of a year as were two months into it. Some places give you internet discounts but I found you get more details in over the phone and can actually fine tune what your looking for and get it cheaper.
Very happy with that price and as I’ll now be named driver I can start clocking up my own NCD finally.

Just renewed my insurance for the 3rd year with Direct Line..... Still the cheapest quote at £320 including recovery and legal cover.....with stainless exhaust, after market wheels and towbar notified.. will take some beating, the so called jdm specialists are double the premium.

Had my renewal from Adrian flux, £608. Rang sky hoping they'd be able to beat it and they wouldn't even give me a quote. The bloke I to said " we're useless on Elgrands'! He said it's not worth providing a quote and advised me to call "Together insurance", they quoted 900 quid. Will ring a few more I think!

Just got my Elgrand insured with direct line for £372 including business use. (its arriving today woo-hoo!)

I phoned Adrian flux and after about a 30 minute call the cheapest price they could come up with was over a grand, that's what the guy honestly said.

I ended up having to phone direct line as new UK number plate is not on database yet. The guy on the phone brought the online quote down from £396 to £370. He said he has insured 3 elgrands this month.

Insurance is always a hot topic of conversation, especially when it comes to Japanese Imports.

As a general rule of thumb, there should be no real "premiums" for insuring the Elgrand over any other vehicle in it's class. The problem you may find is that insurance databases are not always as up to date as they should be when it comes to imports.

Typically, you want to be going for a Japanese Import Specialist insurer. These are usually the best in terms of keeping up to date with import vehicles on their database. They will also, USUALLY, be the most competitive.

Do NOT bother wasting time with comparison sites for your Elgrand... they will throw up ridiculous quotes and just be a waste of your time. Go to insurance companies directly.

My general advice to anyone who asks is to follow the below:

Contact Adrian Flux. Give them all your details and get a quote - I would not recommend taking a policy out with Flux due to the level of complaints I have seen/heard from people in the event of a claim. But, this is just hearsay really, so it's up to you if you choose to insure with them.

Ring Sky Insurance, give them all your details and the quote you got from Flux, they will, most of the time, beat it.

Ring GreenLight Insurance (our Insurance partner), give them your details, give them your cheapest quote, and then tell them you are a member of ElgrandOC to get your 15% discount. If they cannot beat the quote from Sky, go with them.

There are a lot of members who are more than happy, or have had their best quotes from some of the normal, big name insurance companies such as Direct Line, Admiral, Aviva etc. So if you really want to get a comparison across the board, ring some known insurance companies too and see if they can be competitive or not. But I would advise you ring the three Jap Import Specialist insurers listed above first, and then go to the big known insurance companies.

There is a whole different routine you will have to take to insure a FRESH IMPORT that has NOT BEEN REGISTERED. You need to insure on the Chassis number etc, and things are more complicated overall... so if you are looking at insuring an Elgrand off the boat to get in home for MOT etc, then please check in the "Import Experiences" forum section to see what others have done.

Hope this helps.
I am looking to buy a campervan version. I put all my details into go compare motorhome. I put the details in - imported, converted, huge engine - and they returned a figure of £197.20 (OK so I will only do 3000 miles a year and it will be locked in a secure compound) but I was pleased with that!

Hi guys, new member here (great site so far by the way 👍) and am wondering if insurance is likely to change drastically if I were to have an lpg and/or Campervan conversion. Apologies in advance if this isn't the correct place to ask. Many thanks - Wazza

Lpg does not seem to have much if any effect on insurance premium. As for camper conversion some people have a problem with Dvla not changing vehicle details from MPV to camper but I think if you buy one from a camper van converter/dealer they seem to be able to register them as a camper. I'm sure some will comment and correct any thing that is not correct . I'm with LV for insurance and pay a similar price that you have been quoted but I'm just a standard mpv . Hope this helps a bit .😎👍

Very Happy

I've also just gone with direct line. Their quote was far cheaper than any others buy a couple of hundred pounds. I had to phone them as it wouldn't recognise my number plate but did have the Elgrand in their system. End result both my wife and I are covered for £230. Which out of interest was £400 less than my renewal from my current insurer.

This has helped me enormously. Thankyou

LV did it for me, £309 if my memory serves me.
