Their purpose is to catch the 'rocks and pebbles on the initial start-up and few kms. Then it by-passes.

Best to first flush as best as with a sacrificial oil change. When I was at Meremere the practice on my vehicle/s was to drain, fill and run turbine oil to hot at no more than a fast idle. Then dump and refill with whatever good oil; I used Penrite at the time. .
On my bike, remove the filter, drain. Refit drain plug, disconnect the oil return line {make sure the oil tank was topped up at all times), run at idle until fresh new oil appeared from the oil return line. Reconnect the return line

So we are meant to be travelling on the overnight Ferry and we have just checked the weather forecast for next week.
I kid you not gale force winds are forecast for the time of our sail and my poor wife has a brain condition that doesn't tolerate well to a rough sail! Last time she was extremely unwell but she is doing this for me instead of the extra time to travel to the Eurotunnel and also less time for Miami in the car! Talk about sods law the weathers been amazing and now when we are travelling in rain and high winds!
Just wondering about changing the ferry to an earlier Monday one as the evening is when it is predicted to get worse!
Also we are bringing a caravan and its my first time towing in the UK!
 
why oh why is it that one slide bolt refuses to shift im waiting for my nipper to arrive with my rattle gun and a suitable socket done one side pad change half way through the other

Be careful with the impact drive….
 
Need some new slide bolts for mine, not seized but worn flats on them. I might see what they're like on the scrap Elgrand, maybe calipers too if there's any wear in the holes. Been having some brake judder, sometimes severe but goes away under heavier braking, sometimes no judder at all. Disks, pads, slides and caliper pistons seem OK so I'm thinking it could be the flats on the slide bolts.

Mine have flats and grooves where they shouldn't have lol.

I'm giving it the once over, it's about time because I need it tow the caravan 700 miles soon. Just removed a rear shock from the scrap one thinking I'd previously replaced the drivers side rear shock on the black one but not used the proper bolt, there's been a knock at the rear for a long time that I'm only just getting around to looking at and I was going to swap the complete shock and bottom bolt from the scrap one... But when I came to change the shock it seems I did use the proper bolt and that/the shock all seem good, unlikely to be causing the rattle. There's a split gator on the osr drop link and I suspect the rattle might be that, so I might change the rear drop links if I get time before I go away. Just changing the oil and filter.

You probably know that the flats are to allow the grease to move up and down the calliper bore.

Yep, Newquay again....

I know about the flats that are supposed to be there for the grease but mine are worn too.

I don't think many people who visit Newquay go around that headland, we usually have a drive around it but walk on a few other headlands such as Porth and the one near Bowgie Inn near Crantock. Reads like you had a good time near the Hue and Cry, did you come away smelling of pilchards?

No, nothing fishy went on, she wouldn’t let me.

I think you can still climb up it, but there are railings to keep you out.
