WHAT THE FUCK???!!!!

I support getting rid of vroom-tish-bang-jet of flame exhausts, get right on my tits.
No, it won't stop climate change, it has happened since the birth of the planet and will continue regardless. We are still coming out of the last ice age. Will it slow it? Fuck knows.

But replying to myself, it seems far from being a nothing burger. Read round it.

I for one won't morn the passing of the stupid exhausts you hear up and down the high street. Bullet rifle shots types, or 0.9L beat up Corsas with a stupid exhaust. I've always wondered how they get through MOTs. Under the new legislation, if the emissions of said beat up Corsa, or rifle bolt popping Astra don't match, there or there about, the car's original factory emission values, which it most likely won't with the after market exhaust, bingo, it fails.
There's stuff about decoring cats too. Maybe Elgrands may have to get new rear cats from Japan (the legislation seems to make it hard for aftermarket stuff, as the emissions outputs are often different) and then not decor them!! Hopefully not! Also straight through pipes will be laughed at. Those look like they will be failing at the MOT door.
Seems muddy at the moment. The overriding thing is though, the Gov't want yours and other people's high Co2 (and not even high co2, if the car is simply not emitting a similar value (which could be low) which it did when new) cars off the roads, and this looks like yet another way of doing it. All for what though? Is there a shred of evidence that doing all they are doing will make a blind bit of difference.
The Elgrand needed the extra cats to pass Japan's domestic emissions but will pass ours with one set removed. My point is, that to test the original spec is met the MOT stations would probably need upgrading and would also need access to a database of what the original spec should be. My local MOT station couldn't locate a rear shock absorber for me only last week so what chance they have of knowing what the exhaust is emitting and if that's what it should be sounds pretty remote. Probably safe for a while.
While I agree that emissions can be bad I don't recall ever being asked to vote for scrapping internal combustion engines. Ford had a lean burn engine in development when the EU dumped cats on us as cure for all ills. As for the government experts knowing better, they were the ones who advised us to buy diesels. I believe a more realistic time frame to give manufacturers chance to develop engines with less emissions and hybrid systems would have been the sensible thing to do. Possibly even hydrogen fuelled engines. I know it's a little harder to store than LPG but given determination should be possible. After all, if you suggested twenty years ago, a fuel that needed the national grid to be upgraded and new fuel outlets be installed in all fuel stations for vehicles that needed twenty minutes to refil and that if you touched it you're dead, I dare say you wouldn't be taken seriously.

I agree mate. No one voted for scrapping internal combustion. No one seems to vote for anything relevant. 250 coming in on boats again, anyone vote for that.

I like they way you hear those banging, popping, flame throwers- they sound like a group B rally car coming through
Kielder….. then a 1 series 3 cylinder BMW passes you screaming at maximum of 30mph.🫣

We're doomed whatever we do so just do what makes you happy.
We're all a long time dead, make the most of the short lives we have. "Save the Planet" as a slogan is bollocks, the Earth has been battered by at least two meteors in the past, wiping out a lot of life. It has never been about the planet, it's all about "Save the Humans". Selfish feckin apes, the lot of us.

Interesting to see how it will affect the modding community generally. I bet there's plenty of cars with a simple remap (diesels particularly) that now don't get anywhere near their stated emissions targets. Especially if they are VAG Group cars that probably didn't reach their published stats from the factory lol. But anything turbocharged and with more boost than stock is probably putting out more emissions than standard.

Yes, the £500 'map' may well be over.

210bhp in my gti is plenty enough for me, i can't use it all anyway because my licence is my bread and butter. And as for the pop bang bollicks,l... My lc done that when it was sucking in air from a dodgy gasket..why would you want to re create that

My car before this was a 2012 Focus ST that was completely standard and it still had pops and bangs (albeit not obnoxiously loud) on overrun.

I personally don't mind that sort of thing half as much as tiny-engined battered hatchbacks with bazooka-sized exhausts that make a droning, farting racket everywhere they go.

Pops and bangs are not too bad if it's occassional and on country roads but boy racers intentionally cause pops and bangs in built up areas by coming off and on the throttle.

Yes, especially in tunnels

I don’t know if it’s just me or not but I still read it as , if it passes emissions set for that vehicle ( or vehicles in its bracket) your ok.
If mods have been carried out that are obvious such as dpf, egr even re maps that are beyond the vehicles , no cats at all ( on petrol) then it stands to reason that emissions “may” suffer and fail a mot.
As for the pops and bangs then I agree with most, if subtle then I don’t mind them ( wouldn’t want them) but there is absolutely nothing wrong with an Elgrand sounding like a proper jdm coming out of junctions etc, saying this and I may make use of an inner flange silencer on mine at some point, the kakimoto is lovely and the sports cats help open things up but it can drone just a little in certain Rev ranges , only thing is I don’t want to lose that lovely tone and I certainly don’t want to cause any obstruction as in using a db killer or bung ( those that know will k ow lol)

Yes, if say a car has a factory rating of 140g/km, the emissions reading must still be there or there abouts. Aftermarket exhausts, cats, maps etc will usually throw those out, well above 140g/km factory.

Agreed , if you use off the shelf mix and match sort of stuff.
My 200cel cats ( @Elementian ones) have enough of the good stuff in them to run far cleaner than say a 400 would whilst allowing for good flow, ( mainly because it can burn hotter , I think )the rest of the exhaust is well made by people who know what they are doing ( no guesswork etc) c pair this system with the impul ecu’s and throttle body which I believe uses some kind of closed loop system as far as lambdas are concerned and will not simply dump fuel like some cheap versions or cheap tuning box rubbish will.
There are other mods I’ve added and will be adding but not going into those yet.
I have never seen soot or carbon in my tailpipe even when I was on the original setup ( no white stuff either lol) and it’s the same now
I’ve always said that good mods can work if good mods are used ————if say I had put the impul ecu on with everything else stock the results would be a little different lol

But do the DVLA or whoever MOTers answer too have the factory emissions data for the Nissan Elgrand? For example look at the hoops you have to jump through to get ulez compliance because of lack of info. But it does pass so we should be fine.
