"Tractor" diary. Elgrand from Siberia. E50.

I know there's 4wd and all, but still as a platform isn't Delica, for example, a better choice for offroading than Elgrand? Elgrands always seemed a bit fragile to me tbh.
Delica's have their problems too.

Mainly on the L400s....

Fuel pump front seal failure.
Timing chain stretch, with worn guides.
Fuel stop solenoid failure.
Overdrive button on column shift fail from new.
Crankshaft pulley parting company - due to delamination of acoustic band.
Alternator sits low and is killed when wading.
Top heavy.

And obviously rust and rot as they are used and abused and 25 odd years old.

Other than that i love my Delica.🥰

Rusty youth! Part 2. Nissan Cedric
Kawamata Katsuji (one of the founders of Nissan Motor Corporation) named a new car in 1960 after Cedric, the hero of his favorite children's book Little Lord Fauntleroy...
Big, square, classic rear-wheel drive, V6..
What else do you need?
Yesterday I photographed this ship. Body Y30 6th generation..
They will soon die out, but we will remember.

Summer greetings)
The last entry was in May.. Here are some updates:
1. Strange news #1 - In Russia they want to double the tax on cars older than 15 years. What can I say, it's bad, but bearable, since the tax benefits (since I live in a village) are 50 percent cheaper, which is 720 rubles.

I guess they are feeling the pinch.

As for posting on forums, usually the issues are when using “reply” and quoted text has Emojis.

Scary news 2 - union of car dealers of Russia, I never thought that such a union existed. In general, this union decided to introduce a bill - these are just words for now, but. to ban cars older than 30 years from use. Since according to the documents my tractor is from 1990 - there is a long story about why this is so, I got tense

What conclusions - they want to transplant us Russians to Ladas, UAZs and Chinese Krafts like Chak-Chak, Chunga-Changa and other strange things that look like cars. Apparently My car does not meet the safety parameters-airbag, ABS, for comparison, Lada only recently got it, and the most budget version only has 1 airbag..

In general, what I decided for myself.. I will continue to drive my Tractor.
And now about the good:

1. I changed the transfer case, since mine did not have a low range.. And now there is. I will connect the low gear with a cable and a handle under the panel under the steering wheel, so that it does not interfere.
My old
My new

3. I'm doing a little bodywork, but not as fast as I would like..
4. A few trips to Baikal.
ancient masonry. Has ritual significance
The Anga River flows into Lake Baikal
I think that's all.

There are issues with site postings going back 2 years now, so its not just you, it's collectively known as The Oops message.

Loving the photos, that Eagle must make a racket when the wind gets up.

This photo below is akin to the Flash cards my head shrink uses......" A quick flash of a random picture and say what you see."

2. Finished the bike rack. Checked on the highway and in the fields. Excellent. I'm happy.
Funnily enough I’ll be doing similar style rack for three bikes soon.

Good work!

How about those bread looking vans you have in Russia? Those are still being produced if not mistaken?

What transfer case did you put in

Great pics and good to hear from you
Hello. Before 1999, transfer boxes from the Terrano R50 were installed on Elgrands. There is a low gear, but it is not connected, and the mechanism is locked with a pin. This was on diesel 3.2 and petrol 3.3 engines.

I had a discovery with a center diff lock that was not connected because they thought electronic brake control was better, it wasn't, diff lock was better
Sometimes it's hard to understand the manufacturer's logic, if I had a Discovery, I'd want the full range of SUV features. But for the stock Elgrand, low range is a completely unnecessary feature.

UAZ Bukhanka. Of course they do.. and unchanged since the 70s.. except for the engine, now it has an injector. Well, I wouldn't call it a van... But the price of a new UAZ is about 1,700,000 rubles, in comparison, for this amount I can buy a 2008 Elgrand E51 3.5L or 2.5L 4x4, with one owner in Russia..It seems the choice is obvious.. ))
The bike mount is not yet completely ready. It needs to be painted, add mounts for a 3rd bike. And make a wooden panel with side lights, a brake light, and also a frame with a number.

Probably but I want it now 😂

Baikal greetings.
Another trip to Baikal. We went to Sarma. Sarma is a mountain river that flows into Baikal. Sarma is also the strongest wind on Baikal, the speed of which reaches up to 60 meters per second, sometimes higher.
It tears off roofs from houses, tears tents, knocks down cattle.
A beautiful gorge, a stormy mountain river.. We did not go far, since there was little time. Next year we plan to walk along the gorge into the mountains to find the garnet mountain.
In 1643, the Cossacks of the Russian Empire discovered access to Baikal. They walked just through the gorge along the Sarma River.A monument to the Cossack pioneers Kurbat Afanasyevich Ivanov.
This is how clouds gather over Sarma.
Cape Uyuga and Olkhon Island. Olkhon is the largest island on Baikal - its heart. We are planning to go there in the fall.
