Hells bells Peter, spot on (and saved me explaining what they were).The story is perceived in the mind of the reader and each will have a different take on what they have read and indeed the author can give clues to his/her/thems cognitive state of mind by what they have written.
When used in conjunction with other methods of cognitive analysis your state of mind and character can be analysed and assessed.
This assessment when given by an ‘expert’ can stand as evidence in a court of law which could lead to a defendant being sectioned to a secure unit indefinitely.
So it is a particularly powerful tool.
