As in the title - Those of us that visit Elgrand groups on Facebook, why not advise those groups users that this 'proper' forum is better?
I don't use Facebook much but just recently I have been reading and contributing to Facebook Elgrand groups. I am shocked by the general lack of knowledge on all things Elgrand on Elgrand Facebook groups! Some of the long term users of Elgrand Facebook groups are not nearly as well clued up on average as a member of this forum who has only been a member for a few weeks.
On a 'proper' forum like this a thread can be long running and is 'bumped' to the top of a subject list every time there is a new post. In contrast on a Facebook group 'threads' don't really exist in the same way, they are not nearly as search-able, threads with recent answers/posts are not 'bumped' to the top of a recent subjects list like they are here. The same questions/subjects pop up more often because nobody remembers or points to the last time the same subject was brought up, on each occasion a question is asked or subject brought up it is pot luck on Facebook whether a list of responses/answers will come from knowledgeable people and with the context and previous consensus of past discussion or come from a couple of stand-alone newby's who are almost guessing.
Some questions and answers I've recently read on Facebook include "The dealer who sold me my 2002 Elgrand said it was Ulez exempt but I've had a notice to pay come through the post" with answers from quite a few people whom seem completely unaware of the long discussion of this subject on this forum. There would be no way I could convey the full discussion or findings on this subject from this forum in the small space with limited formatting allowed in a Facebook post even if I were inclined to do so, and of course it made more sense for me to tell people to read the thread on the subject on this forum anyway. Ditto many subjects, everything from LPG conversions, through audio, through wheels and suspension, through mechanical and electrical issues, to insurance.
Why do people think Facebook, designed (along with many similar internet sites such as the old Faceparty and including dating sites), sites that are best suited to keeping people in touch with friends/family/potential mates, think Facebook is the one stop website suitable for everything including asking/replying to technical questions and sharing information that is not about people?
Let's do Elgrand owners on Facebook a big favour - If we use this forum and also go on Facebook, when we go on Facebook and there's an Elgrand question that has been well covered on this forum let's post the link to the relevant thread on this forum and advise Facebook users to become a member of this forum.
