Whats your oil consumption?

Hi All

After having the 2nd oil service completed this week in my ownership I now have an idea of how much oil my Elgrand uses between services.

After doing lots of reading about other peoples experiences with Elgrands I noticed a fairly common topic of oil consumption comes up, but hardly ever are there any figures to figure out even a rough idea of how much is used between any time or miles/km.

So here it goes .... I have a Series 2 2005 2.5 Elgrand which has used 800ml of Millers 5w30 fully synthetic oil over 10,301KM or 6,400 miles and 14 months.

I have a series 1 2003 3.5 and use 5W40 fully synthetic oil of varying brands and it barely uses any between 6000km services. It has never dropped enough to need topping up. I check weekly.

2006 series 2 2.5ltr
Always use 5w30 fully synth and she doesn't really use any, as @LeStempy says, i change oil at service but don't top up

2004 S1 3.5. Oil changed every 12 months with Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 fully synthetic but in that time I would have only normally done 1000 miles or so and from the dipstick it looks as though I am not using any oil or if I am it is very little

To be honest I only check it before and after any longer runs as I do not use on a daily basis for short trips.

I bought something like 6 or 7 5 litre tins of the Shell Helix a few years back as I got it for a good price but it is nearly all gone now so might well change to something else in future as with the low miles I do I could probably get away with using a cheaper oil.

As I understand it from here, the difference between H & L is about 1/2 litre (stand to be corrected). Once in the last five years I have seen the level drop to near low after not checking for a few months, otherwise oil consumption has been negligible.

That means is a sound engine. I dont see bad at all for big engine

Naturally aspirated BMW's petrol from 2002 drink much more oil like half a litre every 2,000 miles.

I have a series 1 2002 3.5 with 77,000 miles on the clock and use 5W40 fully synthetic oil of varying brands and it barely uses any between 5,000 mile services, and never to need top up and the rocker cover cap is completely free of an contamination.

Same here, after owning several BMW’s some of which were close to 1ltr per 1000 miles the Elgrand is a dream.

My small oil consumption is probably more obvious because I check weekly and add tiny amounts at a time to keep as close to the max line as possible.

I’ve also had the PCV valve replaced between those oil changes so maybe that will mean I use even less now
