What have you done to your Elgrand today?

What have I done to my Elgrand today?

Let a troop of baboons climb all over it, have a go at pulling off front side window air deflectors, swing from the rear wiper, a massive one casually walked straight up to the offside front side indicator repeater and ripped it off with it's teeth.

Knowsley safari park.

One of dad's mates used to work for Rolls Royce, he said that as part of his apprenticeship he was sent to Africa where he had to fabricate false limbs for locals from scratch. They put him up in a remote cabin that baboons would frequently attack, he soon learned that shooting them with his Lee Enfield or shotgun didn't really deter the rest but filling shotgun cartridges with salt to make them sore would do the trick. I'd have let them have the lead though lol (kidding).

My fault - should have taken the 'car friendly route' (outside the baboon enclosure). But I had the cunning plan of folding the wing mirrors in and then, I thought, they'd only be able to damage the wipers and that would be unlikely...

Been a few times, first time around 1988 with girlfriend of the time, my mate and his girlfriend. We may have wound them up a bit that time eating bananas in full view of them. One watched us eating bananas intently then looked me straight in the eye as it slowly pealed all the rubber off a wiper. Second time they nicked a towball cover.

This time we at least came off better than some cars in front... all bent wiper arms, one car had it's entire rubber windscreen surround or door surround pulled off. I think we'd have come out unscathed if it wasn't for a coupe of cars directly in front blocking the road so nobody could get past as they filmed baboons, it was when we had to stop that the big one bit my side repeater off.

Edit - Heh, I forgot... On another occasion I did have a rear wiper ripped off, and on another I had my front number plate ripped off. On that occassion I was DJing the same night, got pulled by police on the way back from the club... 'Did you know you don't have a front number plate?'. 'Yes, a baboon ripped it off earlier today'... On another occasion I'd borrowed my dad's blue car, a baboon peed on it and where it'd peed it discoloured the paint, my dad asked what the hell I'd done to it lol.

I could have got the side repeater lens back, I saw where it fell on the floor, it might have been intact. But I was on best/sensible behaviour orders after that last time when I 'kidded everyone on' by opening a rear electric sliding door in the lion enclosure lol.
Funny story but... I would no more drive mine through a baboon enclosure than I would drive it across the channel. Not happening 😲

New plugs & new battery.
5 and a half hours not to bad a job.
The only bit I had troubles with was the air to throttle pipe, didn't realize another one at rear.
Getting it of easy enough, but getting it back on, after several attempts, changed tack, put spacer pipe on first to make it longer and a jubilee on it,

Moved mine onto the drive for the week. Probably won’t move again until next Monday now

I hope they did not cost to must to ship I was looking a an after market bonnet with a buy now cost of £149 but was quoted 71100 yen by Jauce to ship vie air to UK been told not possible by surface so item 150 post 450 I decided not to
These were in the uk mate
At 35kg I wouldn’t consider them from jauce

Trivial but none the less satisfying, I changed the splash screen on my display adapter to better represent the vehicle rather than the adapter.

That looks brilliant how did you do it is it through the rear inputs or in the front.

Quick(ish) pre MOT headlight polish. Thought I'd get bold with some 1500 wet & dry I had lying around (what's the worst that could happen? ;)) prior to using the usual Turtle Wax headlight cleaner/sealant - I've used this on its own a few times but takes a lot of elbow grease to get results.

Much improved but would recommend ending on a finer grade e/g 2000 grit if you've got it.

Flew through MOT (other than 1 new tyre)

Two new rear tyres for mine today, you have to buy them in pairs here. Noticed I had a screw in one when checking the Elgrand over ready for RTI test on Monday, so it was panic stations as everything closes on Saturday afternoon until Monday morning. Nearest place open was 40 minutes away who said they had some in stock. When I arrived I asked what choice of tyre brands they had. "Michelin' they replied, so Michelin it was. They came out at the equivalent of £136 each so probably a good price too.

Removed 2nd row middle seat to get it ready for the carpet replacement / shortening the runners for main seats and hiding middle runners.
Now on the lookout for some nice dark carpet fabric.

He and his wife sat in front, I was relegated to the back seat as 'I did the weight calculations and you need to sit in the back dad' o_O . He realised he needs a haircut after I showed him this pic
