Tailgate ice

I opened my tailgate and there was ice/snow on top of the spoiler and the roof.

The two iced surfaces crashed together and the tailgate didn’t open fully, this made a nasty crunching sound.

Now my spoiler is cockeyed - I’m hoping it is just the poppers that have sheared off, too cold to investigate now.

So the moral of the story is….don't open the tailgate fully with snow/ice on both surfaces.

There endeth a pretty obvious lesson.

This situation maybe because my SuperDuper gas struts open my tailgate higher than the norm.

Think mine is okay though!

Another tip - don’t use auto fold mirrors in the ice, quite a similar expensive crunching noise.

Yes, could run an extension cable out to it, heater in the back of it, use a phone controlled mains power socket to plug the extension cable into.

Not as bad as I thought, the layer of snow / ice had shifted giving the impression the whole spoiler had moved.

But the only damage was the wings were cracked , might buy a sleeve spoiler off Chris to cover it, or just leave it as you can’t see it.
