Stepwagon RK5

Hi all, I know this is a Elgrand forum etc, but you lot are a good bunch of people, and would always help me with my Elgrand.

has anyone got or had a stepwagon?

I fancy another car. It is to be used as a daily driver, around 3 miles each way and the odd weekend to the coast. future plans to use for camping etc.

anyone had first hand experience on what they are like? mpg etc

I have asked on the facebook stepwagon pages, and they all love them, but never sure about the mpg side of things.

then on the other hand, my head is telling me to get a citroen c4 grand picasso. £20 a year tax, 70mpg!!! but they are french and will prob have problems with them lol

The thoughts of the same cars you have mentioned have also crossed my mind.
The Stepwagon should be much more economical but may feel underpowered and the CVT could be a potential risk.

Having imported a fair few stepwagons, I would say they don't feel underpowered, they feel about right for their size and deliver respectable fuel economy. They're also pretty spacious, even compared to an Elgrand due to the interior layout being well optimised.

we got one its great cvt gerbox is great really smooth no problems dont know mpg , we love it only changing cause we needed a bit more room so getting a Elgrand

Thread bump, apologies.
I've seriously been considering one of these (or, of course, the E51), as they are bit smaller and still look funky, but the CVT is hard to get past. Not being able to do DIY due to skills-none- and of course not too many places will work on it, and I fear of being gaslite with 'they're alright mate', 'you don't need to change the CVT oil, mate', 'don't read what you read on the internet, mate', 'it's a lifetime fill, mate', 'don't change anything if you've got no issues, mate', 'they're all like it, mate', basically because they won't/can't be bothered doing a CVT oil change, which, seems essential at some point. There's a StepWgn specialist Kent way who seems great, but that's hundreds of miles from me.
All things being equal, the E51's box seems more reliable.

Seems the RK5 came with cvt and I’d want a service sheet the length of my arm even for a youngish low miles one.
They did do some step wagons with traditional auto box especially in the 4wd range.
It also seems they changed to a much “ improved “ system in some 5th and the 6th generations
Some investigating needed I think

Yes, good points. It is the RK5 you mentioned I've considered. About '63-'64 plates, more in my price range (kind of the same prices as an '09-'10 plate E51)
I've read the Voxy/Noah CVT of similar ages is supposed to be reliable, as I guess Toyota were doing CVTs when I was in nappies, but again, that might just be internet theories.

It’s one of those things mate, I have owned two fords with cvt and both failed in different circumstances but my nephew has had one for years and never service it , it runs and drives lovely.
There are people out there with four original cats on Elgrands and not a problem ??
Question is , “ do you want to be that one person who cops for the bad one” or do you keep the faith and go for it, only you know the answer, how bad do you want one ——— they are nice, I would own one now if I didn’t see my Elgrand in the corner of the forecourt covered in tree sap lol

I don’t know much about StepWagons but whenever I see one being driven by a fully grown adult they look odd…..the Van not the adult.
