I had an idea to use a BMX grip as a shifter, found this guy, but in Canada and very expensive
Are the threads fairly standard? Might ask around to see if I know anyone that could knock something up with a bit of 22mm bar on it

you can get gear knob threaded sleaves on e-bay so may be doable with the hand grip
 
MASSIVE polished knob. 60mm [or 2 3/8"].

£13 off eBay, drilled a 12mm hole, tapped a piece of 12mm s/s tube to M10 x 1.25mm, Araldited it in....
Screwed the knob, good and proper.

I'm confused - reading through this thread most people that mentioned the threads said they were M10, but yours is M12?

I have a 2006 E51 - can anyone please confirm the correct thread size?

Sorry, typo. Checked my notes, it is M10 x 1.25, I'll amend my original post 👍🏻
