Remember when......

There is still a slate missing from a neighbours garage roof from where in 1983 me and a mate were playing with these but tied a stone in place of the figure, chute failed to open and landed on the roof cracking a tile which slid down into the gutter, brand new roof at the time.

We would visit my Nan every Sunday close to were we lived.

She lived in flats in a place called Belle Vale ( known as HellVale ), the flats were an absolute hellhole of a place and have now been demolished, any who, we ( my brother and I ) would throw our parachutes from the roof of the 9th floor, massively exciting as a 10 year old to sling our soldiers off the roof then leg it to the lifts to retrieve them.

The lifts would stink of p155 and often stop between floors......you could see the wall of the lift shaft wizzing passed through the sliding gate of the lift, all very exiting, but i wouldn't get in it now, if my life depended on it !

The blocks were positioned like high rise flats but laying on their sides with a few walkways and a green area in the middle for the smackheads.

A lad i went to school with ( John Taylor ) thought it would be a good idea to jump from one block of flats to another on his motorbike.🫣

He was completely mad, he arranged the jump with the help of his mates in secret, obviously as he would have been arrested if the authorities found out his plan.....one of his mates videoed the jump and it was available to view on Youtube but it may have been taken down now.

I wont tell you the outcome in case you find the footage and interview, but let's just say my parachute soldiers had a better landing.😬

After earlier abandoning the jump because the ‘bizzies’ turned up - he later took the leap, a couple of run ups to get his bearings and away he went.
His bike was the same or similar to my Gori 250cc and it didn’t miss a beat. But as he left the rickety ramp the front wheel began to rise and kept rising.
As you can see from this photo his attitude was too steep, when he landed on adjacent flats roof his front wheel was almost vertical and he wiped out spectacularly.

But he made the jump…

Can’t find the video footage but apparently it’s still there somewhere.

Think Ive found it! Geeeeeeez the jumps at 18.30! Were you in the video anywhere Peter!?

Absolutely crazy buddy, I cannot believe he actually did it!
He did even worse looking jumps after that one.

Once his spine had healed he jumped 8 lanes of the M62 whilst it was live, the ramp was set up secretly in a farmers field using scaffold boards and hay bails - the lad was bonkers.

No videos on the internet of this jump!

There are still images going around of the ramp being built and the actual jump - I will look later 👍
He did this one at River Black water and remember he did this for fun, no fee, no TV stunt money…. Just for a laugh.
