Car Scanner is a good app. I use it along with NDS 2.

One like this but not from this site
If it is of any help, I have just purchased a Veepeak Mini Bluetooth OBD II Code Reader EOBD Scanner Adapter Automotive Engine Diagnostic Scan Tool for Android and Windows from Amazon.
I was £16.99. I then downloaded the Car Scanner app Lite from Google Play (Free), plugged the Veepeak into the port on my 2008 3.5 S3 Elgrand and it connects just fine and reads all of the available data.
Based on this I upgraded to Car Scanner Pro (£4.99 for ever) and could not be any more pleased, I hope this info may be of some help to someone.
Good Luck.

Young at heart, slightly older in other places.

Does it show gearbox and bcm or just codes, what options in the app

The Carscanner app won't show Nissan specific information, but it's good for codes and data logging. Even the NDS2 app is limited to certain functions. The Windows version is more comprehensive but does't cover BCM.

Needs to be Nissan Consult compatible. Many aren't even if they say they are.
I've managed to read codes with a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE bluetooth scan tool and the iOS Car Scanner app on my phone. The app allows selection of Nissan Consult II as the protocol. Veepeak recommend ODB Fusion as one of their preferred apps but that doesn't work for me. Bluetooth connects to the Veepeak but then can't connect to the ECU. It's possible to buy a Nissan add-on (£15) but the spec doesn't list the Elgrand as a supported model. I'm trying tech support to see which of the many Nissan add-ons they suggest, there's one for each year from about 2004 to date, with no indication of what the differences area. No response yet.

l use a

OBD2 Scanner with software on phone

I couldn't get one of those to fit my Series 3, there's not much access through the coin holder. I did find that a small Veepeak scanner fitted perfectly and has a case design that makes it easy to remove.
