I have an old mobile phone running the GPS software by @MrChops and the Android head unit has its own GPS software, they usually agree with each other (the difference seems to be due to a lag and is usually 1MPH different) but the the speedometer like yours will register 33 when the GPS says 30MPH.
The council move a speed indicator between the approaches to my estate and it agrees with the phone GPS. I've had the police point things at me from bridges over the road and I'm yet to get a letter about speeding, I often set the cruise control on motorways when the phone GPS reads 70. I've even passed patrol cars when doing this without being pulled over.
I'd say they're accurate enough given the wiggle room that is generally allowed on speed limits.

All car speedos read slightly high to manufacture spec. This is a law that a speedo cannot read under accurate, so they are manufactured with a tolerance for tyre wear.
I would trust a GPS speedo over most cars, as aftermarket wheel and tyre specs can alter speedo reading quite significantly

  • I've been using this app for years now and it's really accurate and very readable and useable.
  • When it came to getting the paid version I had a very simple approach as in it's such a great app that I was more than willing to part with what is such a small amount of cash for this excellent piece of work

Hey everybody, this is a quick update to say that sometime early next month I'll be retiring the app, so won't be giving out any more codes after the end of this month.

I've not decided what I'll do with the apps yet, I'll probably remove the free version and make the paid one free and leave it up, not sure. I won't be updating it in the future so at some point Google will remove it and my account from the Play Store. I do plan on putting the apk file on the app's website for people to download for as long as I keep the site running (hopefully the traffic doesn't exceed my hosting limits lol).

I'll update this thread next week hopefully with a link to download the app for free if anyone wants it.

Very glad to have been able to give something back to this awesome club that's helped me so much, and wish I could continue but the time has come to call it a day. Thanks to everyone who's given it a try, used it regularly or have recommended it to others. 🙏

Well James, I for one am a great fan of your app and use it a lot. Tell me, if/when it gets removed from the play store, will it also end up getting removed from the phone/device?

You mention 'the app's website' - where do I find it please as I shall take advantage of downloading the apk when you depositi it there.

Once again, many thanks for a great app and whilst I haven't tried all similar apps out there, when I found yours some many years back now, I had no need to look further.
 
Hi Alan, the app won't be removed from your devices is my understanding. I'll update here when I've uploaded it and sorted out the website. I'm still not sure exactly how this is going to work, I mean whether I'll be simply removing my Play developer account, or making the app free and leaving it until Google take it down. But I'll be keeping the file available as long as I can somewhere.
 
I have no idea how you would go about it but you could possibly upload the app to f-droid.
 
So I was wasting some time on YT and watching a guy's experience of importing a Japanese car (LINK) (a light and amusing watch BTW) and starting at 17m 17s he starts to check the converted odo/speedo against his smartphone GPS, and guess whose app he's using - :cool:
 
Short but sweet 😊 Better that the exposure it got on The Grand Tour. Clarkson used it in an amphibious vehicle and was going so slow it didn't read above 0! One second of him pointing at the app 😂 And after all the back and forth with the production team.. Never mind, at least I can say "As soon on TGT".
 
Even if this offer is no longer valid I'd still be looking to purchase after reading your reviews.
