You will now notice that there is a new bar at the bottom of the screen. I am still in the pricess of setting this up, but its a chat feature similar to Facebook.

Users online can chat together using the system. I am hoping this will replace the current "Conversation" Private Message system that is currently in place as it's quick and easy to access. There is also a chat room feature which will be set up in due course. For the time there will be one chat room which will be for the admins and mods to use.

Once testing is complete, I will be asking for requests as to what chat rooms you would like to see.

This system is NOT to be abused, please still try to keep technical posts to forum threads so that they can be seen by all and searched in future.

This venture has required some capital investment, ie I paid for it. So please feel free to use it and do not abuse it. If it gets abused, I'll take it off and the club funds will have been wasted.

This is an attempt to make more people feel "at home" away from Facebook as it allows you to keep in touch with fellow members who are online easily.

Feedback, as always, is appreciated.

Hi Karl
Congratulations for adding another new feature to this forum. You are really doing very hard work in making this forum the best ever forum. It will take this forum towards the next level.
Always keep it up

Honestly guys. When I started this place, every change took a while night whilst I was working out how things worked. Now I've kind of got my head around it, it's fairly simple to make amendments.

But glad you guys appreciate the effort. This place is for you, so I need to make sure I'm ticking all the boxes to keep the members interested.

The chat system will only store messages for 2 weeks, and unread messages for 4 weeks. So ensure that no details are kept in a conversation with another member that you need to look back on.

I can overwrite this rule if needs be, but it helps to keep the database size down and space is a commodity that I need to conserve.

You can now play pacman using the chat bar. On the left side, you will see a picture of the legend himself. Click it and the game will appear. A bit of fun for anyone fancying some retro gaming :D

Strange, over all these intervening years I haven't got any better at Pacman. I was crap then and still am.

Seems the chat bar likes to play hide and seek... having problems with it and don't know why. I'm getting tech support for it at the moment...

I think that the chat feature would be better if there was a global chat option rather than one to one?

We could use the existing 'PM' system for that, it's a tried and tested method.

If the chat was global then it will pull people from Facebook.

I could have a whole new subdomain and install a dedicated chat client. But, although it will bring people to the website, it will not necessarily bring them to the forum.

I'm not doing well at this chat feature game, lol.
It's more hidden and can't seek.
I'll keep looking tho.

I've turned it off for now because it's doing my fucking tree in.

:D
That comment brightened up an otherwise boring Sunday.
