It's quite frightening the advice being given out on the Farcebook pages... it can be a bit hit and miss here too, but if you stick with people like Le Stempy, LPGC and WhatsThisFor, (and others!) you can get through the mire.

I'm doing up a little holiday home I bought a few weeks back. I haven't actually managed to find a beach, or do much at all yet, other than work on this place. A few more weeks and I'll be off. Not run from this group. The guy who own the F/B page is on here somewhere, can't remember his name. Stick here honestly best car group I've been a member of, and I've been on a few with different vehicles. Good luck trying to find one, I'll be passing through Carlisle well on the M6 on the 23rd of this month heading to the South lake's for a weeks holiday.

So the seller can't find the email with the CarVX report in, is it imperative to see it if I'm checking it over myself? Is there a way I can get a new copy/replacement? I have photos of other receipts etc so I still get a good feeling from them...

You can get a copy of the carvx easily enough as long as you have the cars chassis number which the seller should be able to let you have.

I would have thought that the seller should also have the original paper copy of the export certificate from when the car was deregistered in Japan for export as I would assume if he bought from a dealer they would have passed it on to him with the car.

Not entirely certain on this as I imported my Elgrand myself and my agent in Japan sent me the export certificate prior to shipping my Elgrand to the UK but is something that I would expect to get if buying from a dealer as this is proof that the car has not been stolen and has been legally deregistered to be exported and as it is needed for customs clearance I would have thought that it would have been sent to the dealer from there agent in Japan the same as mine was and then passed on with the car when it was sold.

This should show the cars mileage at deregistration and also at the previous 2 MLIT inspections and the mileage when it was sold at auction

You could ask your seller if he has a copy of this.

This information is also on the carvx and the 2 should match as carvx takes this information from the export certificate.

I personally would not buy it without seeing the carvx and being able to check the auction sheet and auction grade and that it was not accident damaged and repaired in Japan and that the mileage from the export certificate and carvx checks out with the mot history as from what I have read on the forum it is very easy to clock Elgrands and I have seen that some importers even reset the total mileage to read in miles as opposed to kilometres.

Thank you for the explanation, he bought it as a private sale. The previous owner to him was the first UK owner. I've ordered another one (current exchange rate cost was £18) so that's a tiny amount for my nosey self to read through.
