Hello all,

In short, looking to buy my first ever Elgrand E51. I’m looking at options and need;
-Guidance
-Advice
-Opinions
-Recommendations for place to buy one that someone could recommend that either import/or resell. Pros/Cons. Really don’t care where as long as they are trustworthy.

To summarise, do I go with someone that imports and if so does someone have a recommendation, or do I go with someone that is just reselling. With someone that imports I’m taking undersealing/cats probably won’t be done??.

Any information would be welcome, any advice on what to avoid how to get most - or if maybe such conversations already took place to push me the right way.

I’m currently considering all options but do ideally want something that would last for a while as an amazing family road trip car. Find planes really boring. Rather be staring at the 20 hours of driving I got left, first Monster can, German guy giving me the look and mile 1296 slowly ticking away and etching away at my soul.

I’m really not sure if my pregnant Mrs, daughter 1, daughter 2, dog or me that wants the Elgrand more - I do know they keep all staring at me and the 13 month nodding in agreement with mum that we need it. Democracy ey!!!.

Numerous valued importers around but I believe E51s becoming scarcer now, there is also the for sale ads on here where generally it will be a loved motor for sale.
Have you a list of preferences? Colour, engine size, model etc?
Either way with a little common sense you should be able to get a cracker
 
Looking for a 3.5, ideally 4WD, sunroofs Rider Autexh or Highway Star, everything else I really don’t mind as long as cats and under sealing has been done , colour not so much but probably would avoid grey.

I found a few places around. Colin’s Import Motors had quite a few, found a nice highway star in Kent area but had around 85/90k miles. And a few more from some other importers. But just don’t know who is trustworthy.

From what I did see and pretty much realised I had missed quite a few that I would’ve taken in heartbeat that were on the forum - and its a place that has a very high chance where I would end up buying from.

Any of the dealers registered on this forum would be a good choice as they wouldn't import any old tat but rather carefully select their vehicles so you don't end up with a lemon. However, good ones are becoming harder to find so you might have to wait if you want a particular spec.

Are you OK to compromise and have you carefully considered the pros and cons of these choices or are they not 'showstoppers'?

Personally, I think sunroofs are more trouble than they are worth.
The engine options are both OK and little MPG gains for the 2.5l so it makes sense but 4WD?
It would add complexity so unless you think you'll really use it, is it another nice to have?

Thanks for advice. Is there an area I can find on forum with dealers or you have any that you could recommend?

I am willing to compromise, I mean currently looking for what I want. However, if the right one pops up without 4WD or sunroofs I probably wouldn't bat an eye. What complexity does the 4WD and looking for 4WD as journeys to icier, snowier climates, gravel roads with snow type, and sunroof issues Im taking than :(.

Sunroofs really a want as I never had them before and would be a nice addition, might just take a holesaw and do one myself :D.

Have a look at my thread which is nearly 2 years old now, get yourself a hot drink and some biscuits as there are currently 10 pages.

Executive summary.
Some owners have experienced leaks from a sunroof, something that can happen to sunroofs from any manufacturer. Mine is under control in the sense that the right conditions that lead to a leak haven’t all lined up for some time.

I must admit I have not done too much driving in the snow but with a RWD Mercedes estate, which are meant to be the worst in snow and ice, with all-season tyres I have not had a single issue.
 
Could someone point me in the right direction to see how to set up my drop down tv please
 
Thank you for that really appreciate your input. However what i actually mean is, I have my rca cables laying on the floor, am I right in assuming that I plug these into an hdmi to avoid adaptor then plug in my firestick to that adapter and power the firestick through my usb charge point and hey presto I'll have tv?
 
That should read , plug into my hdmi to AV adapter.......sorry

Sounds about right. Adapter should be switched to NTSC for the Elgrand. Then select VTR in the TV menu.

And check Ulez compliance if your in Londontown.. Use TFL website nothing else is accurate
