Quick solution is to put Google Translate app on your phone it works through your camera and translates what it sees. Because of the different FM frequencies used in Japan you will need a range expander or forever listen to R2. You should find that you can Bluetooth pair your phone for audio easily and if you buy a CompactFlash card you can load MP3 files on there too.
