Well after years of being an advocate of the FB group.
I've had enough. I think the popularity of our cars has unfortunately had a negative affect on the type of new owner.
I'm sick of the sarky remarks.
Unfortunately my temprement doesn't let me just roll over.
And I can be like a dog with a bone.
So as from tonight that's me done
 
I first looked at the facebook groups 5 or 6 years ago and pretty quickly come to the conclusion that by far the majority on there did not know there ass from there elbow and apart from a very few contributors the information was at best suspect and in a lot of cases was incorrect

I still have the odd look now and then as very occasionally there is something worthwhile but it does take quite a bit of wading through rubbish to find and I agree with John in that to a big extent if anything over the years it has got worse as I think the few on there that did have some knowledge have moved on or do not bother to reply anymore to the often repetitive questions that have been asked countless times before.

For me the collective knowledge on here is far greater although to a lesser degree I do feel that the forum has also gone slightly the same way with questions being asked that have been answered many times before and that with the use of the search facility or even google these could have been answered in seconds.

Lots of abrupt questions with no other information. Deliberately bad information given in replies. Advice being given that is dangerous to both vehicle and safety. AI answers *shudders*.
Lots of scammers of course.
There are some good people trying to struggle against the tide but a lot is garbage.

On FB somebody who really knows what they're talking about can give a great answer to a question, next day it has scrolled off the bottom of the page, someone asks the same question again, some numpty answers, person who really knows what they're talking about could not keep up with correcting numpty answers even if they had the inclination.
 
I agree, especially how there's no structure and stuff simply goes down and down a chain everyday leading to repeated questions,
Mind you, it can't be that bad; I'd imagine quite a few Elgrand owners have been happy enough to use the market place to sell their bus.

Is that the e50 page or the eoc page , chucked the eoc page not long after I joined it , not my cup of tea , mind most of Facebook isnt my cup of tea ha ha , funny really cus main reason I joined Facebook years ago was for the car clubs but all gone , or nearly all
 
The FB groups are literally the same questions 20 times a day ....

They can be helpful for a quick response due to the shear number of people .... But quite often the info can be very wrong.
 
Hi all yes some of the questions make me laugh. Here’s my favourites and sad to say women are the worst.

1 brought an Elgrand today got it home and this does not work or that. Are they thick, did you not look it over so Why have you brought it then?
2. got my Elgrand E51 use it every day but it uses a lot of fuel. Really, would it be the 3.5 engine.

if it’s any consolation it’s the same on the SERENA Facebook pages to. Here’s one from that site.

1 just got my Serena anyone no where I can get a tow bar. My hubby loves telling them you should have looked at the spec. As it’s the same as the Elgrand if it does not give towing tolerances you should not tow.

Why oh why do they not use search facilities on the system to find the answers to the questions asked so many times before, or better still do some research on what they are buying before they do.
 
It is a shame because it could be a great community. I think the bigger problems though, not wanting to sound 'conspiracy theorist', are the algorithm, AI and bots, as with every social media platform, of which there is no escape. And the more disruptive, the more interaction which equals attention, time spent and data that they use and trade.

I will get off the soap box now haha

I lurk on FB to see what is happening and rarely get involved, not sure if that is good or bad, but the better time is spent on this forum for sure.

I see that a lot on FB. "Just bought XY today, can anyone tell me why..." Even a few seconds of looking it up would have told them the answer but it seems people are becoming hard of thinking. It doesn't occur to them to check for themselves. I know someone who took to facebook while their baby was severely ill. They preferred to listen to the advice of strangers rather than the actual doctors and nurses treating the child. Turns out that is not uncommon.

Someone else I know uses Google's AI for all their answers even when the answer is clearly wrong, they still trust it.

I go on but I keep to certain topics. It's too easy to get caught up in the algorithm. I prefer here.

If you understand how AI engines work then you will realise that the answers they provide are little more than best guess. Personally I have removed or disabled all AI from my PC. FB is just a human driven version with added sarcasm.
 
AI is ok in its place , I.e if you already have an idea.
I’ve used it a few times but was a little disappointed the last time when it directed me to multiple quotes from FB for frigg sake
 
I have sadly watched the decline of Car Forums over the years and they were always my go to for info, help and that feeling of community. Facebook then sadly took over and initially it seemed the ok, however I do find as someone who is now in their late 30's those initial thoughts are long gone. I've seen bullying, homophobia, racism and vile personal comments on pages that should be simply about the love of cars they own.

I am so glad to be a member here as its a small slice of heaven and a reminder of better times. I hope it continues to go from strength to strength
 
I have never been on a forum before this one and reading the comments about others made me think that the reason this one is so good is due to the members, and particularly the staff members for rooting out and getting rid of the argumentative people that think they can say what they want due to not being face to face, so thank you all staff members and anyone helping to run this great forum. :)

I'm an old IT bod, I hate this version of 'AI' (Just LLMs trained on stolen data). I use linux and refuse to have anything 'smart'. Even my TV is not allowed to access the network.
