E51 E51 Aircon Pipe Corrosion (Rear)

For those of you with that have copied off the rear ac line, where did you do it. My mechanic is going to take a look tomorrow, but being from Canada he isn't familiar with the Elgrand. Would like to give him some suggestions from your collective consciousness.

I didn't actually see where it was capped off, I couldn't see it from the top and meant to look next time it was on the jack but have forgotten each time. All I can say is that I think it was lower passenger side of the engine bay. Likely it will be obvious when your mechanic has a look.

@Robert Courtis Hi Rob I am sure if you contact Stuart re post 113 Facebook address he will point you in the right direction. As @Lize said it is somewhere on the passenger side down in the engine bay as that's the side the air filter box is and that has to be removed to get to cap off the rear air con.

Need to take airbox out to get to one of them, then the other is somewhee in the region of the O2 sensor on the cat. Had to unscrew my sensor to get the tool in. Fiddly but doable.

Thanks for the tip. My mechanic seemed concerned about capping off to low or leaving to much pipe that would not get circulation, that would apparently then collect oil and starve the compressor of nesassary lubrication.

Well just went through the process of getting a shop to block off the rear ac lines.. all and all not a bad experience, van blows cold air up front.. and my wallet is lighter. But when it gets to the mid 30celcious here I will not care.lol

Done a five hour round trip up to Durham and back and gave the air con a good workout. Done its job very well. Wife shut the vents on her side as she was "TOO COLD". :joy:

Impossible to keep them happy eh? :joy: Still need to sort my aircon yet.

I'm still haven't got mine sorted. I can probably find someone local to weld the pipe up but clueless as to how much gas it will need then.

So, for those of you that have had it blanked off at the front, any idea how much gas / oil needs to go in after the conversion?

My aircon was misbehaving last year so I took it to the local "expert" and he cocked it up so that it still didn't work and he managed to cause a leak on my LPG system which Simon put right for me.

I then took it to Flory's in Middlesbrough and he sorted it - including a dye test which proved negative - but said that there could be a small leak and it might need capping.

I tried the aircon again last week and nothing happened so I took it back to Flory's and he said it was empty
He's filled it up and put some dye in and I have to take it back in a week's time for him to look at it.
He said there are two options:-
1. replace leaking pipe.
2. cap it off.
Mine's a camper so I will get it capped I think.
I'll let you know what he did and how much it took once it's done.

Look forward to hearing from you George as mine needs done as well!

Thanks for the feedback. Tell him I'll give him his first order if he makes the blanking plates on mass!!
Heya! Stuart sounds like the man to see for this problem. I'm based in Hull, so Leeds isn't too far to travel if he can blank of the rear air con for me. Can you let me have contact details please?

Cheers

Just be aware that if you have LPG fitted, that no gas pipework goes near airbox as it has to be removed and the pipe can be in the way. I had issues with my LPG pipe running close to it. Air Con is ice cold but had leak on gas pipe which my Brother in Law seems to have fixed.:) Would not put gas leak down to workmanship of Stuart, it was just one of those things and cost nothing to repair. ( new olive and a few knuckle scrapes)

Mine has LPG. Didn't cause Stuart any problems. Only tricky bit was getting too in near the O2 sensor, had to take the sensor our to make room.

Thanks for the information. I do have an lpg conversion so I'll mention it if I manage to get hold of Stuart. He must be busy with this heat, everyone will want their air con doing!

Sod's Law applied today.
The hottest day of forever and my aircon is kaput!
The bloke at the aircon specialist put some dye in last week and I took it back today to see if there was a fixable leak.
No chance! The leak is from the condenser so I now need a condenser and receiver drier.
Anyone got a spare one? (He asks - more in hope than expectation.)
Where do I begin to look for one at a sensible price and with reasonable assurance that it will be OK?

This looks like it's the right one:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-E...172710?hash=item5b58b35926:g:ZBAAAOSwlm5dII6M

@stevemen . I would imagine he tests them before removal.
