So a few years ago I changed the hole unit, to save the hassle, well times have moved on.
To save a bit, I've tried to make my own, first time I got cable, tried the soldering bit, well, you guessed it failure.
So moving on, I ordered some pull door cable repair kit, (£17.90) with one end already done, yes I still have to solder the other end, but did more research into flux.
Long story short, not even fitted it yet but I know I've got it spot on.

Your nipples look good, :) I've got one of mine to do again, when i did the first door with stainless sheathed wire it soldered no problem and the nipples have been fine ever since. The second door a few months later wouldn't solder properly using the same flux and solder and it lasted three weeks, i have put it down to the stainless wire becoming tarnished so i have bought some much stronger flux for stainless steel (Phosphoric acid), hopefully this will do the trick.

My first try was a disaster, couldn't get the solder to stick to the stainless wire, with the flux I had, did consider ordering acid, but a few on YouTube pointed to this flux

As soon as I started to melt the solder you could see it stick.
But by getting wire with one end already done, it gave me a 50/50 chance of success
