I think it's as one gets older, you realise how wrong/unwise many people in responsible positions are....

That said, a good proportion of those that don't trust 'em have, themselves, pretty untrustworthy - and often just objectively wrong - views :-/

I've found the ceramic coating stuff I put on the boat (because apparently normal waxes aren't suited for the marine environment but ceramic coatings are) really do seem to last.

This really needs photos, so we can see more of what it's like to own a swanky, shiny boat

I'm glad that my job is in one of the ones above the BBC in the trust table. Heck, if people trusted me less than the BBC, I don't know what I'd do

It is good to see that the BBC are THE most trusted news source on that list though even if journalists are generally untrusted.

I work in financial services which is an information driven industry so trusted news sources are not something taken lightly and trust has been built up over decades.

Seemed there were few options for detailing vehicles years ago. Wash it with fairy liquid, polish with Tcut, wax with Turtle Wax. All done by hand using a hosepipe, bucket, rags and maybe a sponge.

I seldom wash vehicles now, might take it to the automatic or hand car wash occasionally. I'm more into detailing the boat these days.

The waxing stage is a whole lot easier than it used to be using modern waxes but I'm not sure the results are as long lasting or good. They almost seem too easy and I'm left thinking the layer of wax that's left on must be a lot thinner than with the olf Turtle Wax. Except I've found the ceramic coating stuff I put on the boat (because apparently normal waxes aren't suited for the marine environment but ceramic coatings are) really do seem to last.

A lot is in the prep. If someone just washes their car for the first time in 4 months, then puts a wax on it, disregarding the probably paint wrecking (swirls, microscratches) they'd do in waxing a car still probably covered in contaminants, the wax also wouldn't bond well.
If the surface is correctly prepared, say using a Garage Therapy (GT) Zero wax stripping shampoo, then say a fall out remover, then GT Zero again, then waxing, you'd find it'd last ages. Of course other steps could be in there, such as claying etc.
A joke is when a dealer offers a 'lifeshine' or wherever, and charges full wack for it. Applying it after minimum prep to the car.

I laugh at the statistics that report details like, "33% of the UK trust a particular group" etc etc. very carefully omitting that the 33% is the percentage of people who they asked or responded to their question which in nearly all cases are people very carefully chosen to produce the answer they require.

• I'm currently watching the current series of The Traitors (on BBC TV/iPlayer) (and also the previous series).
• Now, you either like this sort of thing or you don't of course, but for me the most single significant point that comes out of the programme is how easily ordinary sensible and intelligent human beings make false deductions and are influenced by what is around them and who they share it with.
• We are all, repeat all, influenced by our life experiences and what we are exposed to which is why some think the world is flat, vaccines are a hoax (and car detailing products are wonderful) and (for Daily Mail readers) that Donald Trump (or Argumenty i Fakty readers for Vadamir Putin) are wonderful.
• Forming an objective opinion, making an informed choice - not easy to do for sure?
• Mind you, I think the Elgrand is a better vehicle than the Alphard (but maybe not - lol!).

That's the thing about threads which descend into de facto politics ones. In essence, you highlighted your own bias in that statement.
They (such threads, and likewise your quoted sentence) unfortunately descend into name calling and divisive prodding of group against another, and seem to bring out the worst in people.

However, I don’t like some of what they say or how they say it, but facts are facts. If you’d prefer to trust a news source that has an alternative agenda, then that’s fine. But, question yourself now and again and find a different source that disagrees with you and then check if there’s any validity to what they say, alternatively, bury you head into a world that is influenced by ratings or advertising or just is pure lies that invade our world then that’s fine, stay uninformed and influenced by other agendas

Can anyone recommend a good engine degreaser, I've recently changed my rocker gaskets and had some oil drip all down the side of the the engine, ive taken the belly pan off and cleaned that bit I've got residual oil in the bay/bottom of the engine

My mate reckons they intentionally don't report on certain things, then again the same mate reckons other major news channels don't report on the same things either. He does watch a lot of Youtube news / reports.

But here we're talking about a BBC review of car detailing products. The BBC doesn't recieve money from advertisers so there's no standout face value reason for their review to be biased?

I used brake cleaner in an aerosol can to clean up from the oil leak on my Mini's sump pan, never seen it so clean.

A friend of mine uses aerosol brake cleaner on his paving if he gets any oil on it, works a treat.

Brake cleaners very useful, I get through quite a lot of cans!
