Anyone know how I can get a spare key for my Elgrand?

I approached Martyn, nice chap but he wanted £1,500 for a replacement E51 key.

[Update: I eventually went back to Martyn and he clarified, £150]

Any other options for a replacement key?

What words did you say to Martyn, immediately after he told you he wanted one thousand five hundred UK pounds?
 
I told him I didn't have that kind of money right now but I would keep him in mind. It's a large % of the vehicles worth for a nice-to-have but maybe its a fair price for the effort and skills required.

Continue to be interested in getting a replacement key, at a price I can afford if anyone has any other ideas.

You can buy a key off eBay for about £20 I local locksmith can cut it I can programme the key but I’m in Weymouth.

A presume you have a key.
 
£200 is the going rate, that is for you to buy the fob and blade from maybe Matt at JustJapanese and for you to arrange a mobile locksmith to find your BCM code then programme the fob to your Van.
He will also cut the blank key blade to match the one you have.

As Andy has said above, if he was closer he would pair it to your van for nothing.

Are you sure the guy you spoke to didn’t say 15 quid ?

Was chat on socials. Maybe there was a misunderstanding and an extra zero slipped in. £150 I would not have questioned.

Yes, have the one original key and fob combo. I am going to take @WhatsThisFor advice and see if JustJapanese can supply a blank fob and key blade - will then see who else I can find locally to do the job. If no luck I may take you up on your kind offer - wife says she would like a trip to the coast ;)

i do keys for around £50 each, I cant cut the blade but can supply a blank and program all as part of the cost.

Thanks for the offer Chris, I am between Oxford and Gloucester - maybe you are not a million miles away.

I have just ordered a fob/key combination from Matt at JustJapanese which I hope will arrive in a few days but will still be looking to get my original fob cloned.
 
After a bit of a chat with Matt at JustJapanese I think I'm understanding this whole replacement key thing a bit better. I'll write here what I think I know and people with more expertise can correct me.

I have one original key/fob combination.
  1. The fob will open the doors.
  2. The fob will start the vehicle (no key required)
  3. The key will physically unlock the doors
  4. The key is chipped so if the fob is not present or fob battery flat you can put in ignition and start the vehicle.
If I get a replacement key/fob combination:
  1. The fob can be programmed to the vehicle (which must be present) and it can then be used to open the doors and start the vehicle
  2. The blank key can be cut to match the existing key if I want to use it to physically unlock the doors
  3. The blank key would need to be cut and its chip reprogramming (if it has a chip, many replacements do not) to match the original if I want to put it in the ignition and start the vehicle and this is a bigger job than cloning the fob
So with a replacement most people are happy to stop at step 1 - clone the fob so that they can open/lock the vehicle and drive it - who uses a key these days anyway? Step 2, having the key cut is not a big deal but Step 3, getting a chipped blank key reprogrammed for the ignition is a bigger job (requiring access to the innards of the dash to get a code?)

I hope this is useful to others, assuming its not already in an FAQ somewhere.

Sorry if I've misunderstood, but just to be clear, is that for just the key blade or the whole fob and key blade? Apologies for hijacking the thread, I'm still a new owner and am also after a second fob/key!
 
I can supply a fob programmed to the car along with a spare uncut emergency key blade for £50.

Best not to clone keys.

Silly question time.

I was sure you needed the Van to programme the fob to the BCU otherwise how would you know.

Remember I know next to nothing about this key programming malarkey but I was told point blank that you can’t programme a fob to the Van without the Van.

Sorry I should have wrote, " i supply a key whcih includes programming to your car" for £50

You can copy a key and not need the van but clone keys can fail
