Hi all, I am Dave, from Shropshire. Been toying with the idea of purchasing an Elgrand for a good couple of months now but have decided to go for it.



Joined loads of FB communities and done a bit of reading as well as physically looked at two Elgrands, however, still struggling to know what exactly to go for…



Have a wife and 2 kids and we all love to travel. Looking for a day van, which would be used for basic outings this summer and over time could slowly be converted into a camper, with the dream being Europe next summer.



I like the look of all but think E51 is the preference? but 2.5 or 3.5? RWD or 4WD?



Where would I be best starting? What to avoid? Anyone got anything for sale relatively local (happy to travel)?



Don’t have a huge initial budget, around 4k. Could be eeked upwards for the perfect machine.

The E51 makes for a good camper, it's also a good people carrier as well. I would go for a 3.5 as there's little difference in fuel consumption between them. 4WD would be handy if you're likely to be camping off grid. The Highway Star sits a bit higher off the ground and its tow points are accessible.
There is a for sale section which will give you an idea of cost.

i had the same doubt about engine size but in the end 3.5 made sense. with the weight of the car 3.5 is the best option and i dont think fuel consumption isnt that different
