Hi everyone,

I’m heading off on a trip this Friday from Croydon down to Devon in my E51 — really excited as this will be my first long journey with it!

Looking forward to seeing how it handles the motorway run and overall comfort on a longer drive.

If anyone has any tips, advice, or things I should keep an eye on before/during the trip, I’d really appreciate it. Anything specific to the E51 that’s worth checking beforehand?

Thanks in advance!

Just do your usual checks mate. So Oil, Coolant, Tyre Pressures etc and you will be fine.
I'm currently in Cornwall at the moment after driving from West Yorkshire and with the exception of consuming a lot of fuel (3 kids and all their associated crap) it hasn't skipped a beat.

Save drive down 👍

Make sure your slider pins in the brake calipers are good. After a run I always go around the Elgrand checking the temperature of the wheels are all consistent. There's been a fair few Elgrands suffering with seized rear slider pins.

I did that journey (plus a bit more) in reverse today...Cornwall back to Croydon. The A303 westbound was really busy andver slow, especially around Stonehenge as it always is.
it was much easier heading home!
My advice would be to pick your time for the journey wisely. Sitting in that traffic would massively increase your fuel consumption!
Enjoy the journey and have a great holiday!

Thanks mate! Had a great trip — the car didn’t skip a beat. I even installed a massager on the seat and it was absolute bliss 😄
