Canm8 fitted today!

What a simple job to do! Whilst I was in behind the dash I cleaned off the internal temp sensor as it was fluffy hahaha and also properly wired in my rear fog that's never worked, I also removed some redundant wires from over the years - 2 dab ariels and an rca on the flip side I found some connectors that aren't connected to anything.... Wonder if resident guru Stempy can shed some light on them all in all just doing the canm8 probably about 45mins but I was tracing stuff all over the car so took more like 2hrs

4 bolts hold the main panel on (they also hold the fuel and bonnet flaps) once that has been popped off I just used a Pozi drive to remove the screw that you can see in the photo, then I just brushed it off with a soft paintbrush and refitted. Probably take you 15mins from start to finish.

The one that puzzled me was the brown one with an aftermarket splice (cheap nasty one too)

May be for switches that weren't relevant, some Elgrands have eight or more switches on that panel below the steering wheel. The tap is probably 12v to power some odd Japanese accessory.

Brown one may be for toll device, and I think it has the speed signal needed by the Pivot system..It also has acc power and maybe the foglight could be taken from it.

Whoever did the rear fog took feeds from the near side electric door

I've had to dash to the exhaust place for my wife's Micra and picked up a magazine and it's dated 1978!
Anyway, you could buy this cruise control, much simpler but not so effective as it simply holds the throttle, doesn't measure speed.

looks good and presumably not speed restricted like the oem, would you say “simple” for someone who is reasonably adept at fettling with cars or “simple” like an IKEA bedside table?

Honestly if you have eyes that function properly and very basic hand tools (screwdrivers etc) it's as simple as an IKEA bedside table. I did zero soldering so if anyone needs a really easy writeup I'll do one later. If you don't want to solder you will need to add an additional piggyback fuse holder. I tested the only cable to solder and it was an ignition live and only served as a power input so I just added a piggyback to an ignition live fuse and hey presto.

I'll let you know, but I've got a 6hr 30min drive next weekend and as it stands on the motorway run I've done it does appear to be a LITTLE bit better on fuel so in theory could pay for itself. If nothing else it makes journeys easier and means you can be covering the brake instead of moving from the accelerator to brake. Either way it's a great little addition.

I've got a very similar system, dead easy to fit but a bit fiddly to set the speed control, funnily enough if you brake hard without knocking the cruise control off it actually gets faster.

They can get simpler, I used to make a cruise control for my bikes out of a coat hanger.
