Sounds like it could have a leaking rocker cover gasket, If that is the problem it is fixable. Just got to find a mechanic up for the job.Today after checking spark plugs after a misfire, cylinder 3 was full of oil. My problem is do I scrap or invest in fixing. Not good timing with family stuff going on. Think might be saying goodbye to Elli.
Don't think its ever been de cored, too much for me to think about.
A bit of oil in the spark plug tunnel is no reason to scrap. The oil wont really affect much apart from softening the rubber bits on the coil pack. If it has a misfire probably just needs a new coil as they are prone to failure oil or no oil.does that mean its not scrap?

Happy New Year hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable one. Hey all not asking a technical advice just to locate if it has been asked before, but my tailgate intermittently works. It stops working I pull the fuse put it back in and works fine for a little bit I have replaced the IPDM but still the same thing has anyone else had this issue? Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction. P.S: I have searched but with no luck.
Is it an expensive job the covers? ill order a new coil now to see if it works. thanks for the input.Big difference between oil in the cylinder and oil in the spark plug hole.
You described oil in the spark plug hole, we would expect a new cam cover and gasket to fix that.
If there was/is a misfire on the same cylinder as the cylinder that has its spark plug hole full of oil it is possible that the oil has effected the coil working properly. The coil might need replacing or just cleaning it up might fix it.
I've replaced gaskets / changed cam covers on plenty Elgrands and will be changing cam cover gaskets on another Elgrand in a couple of days.
Not the cheapest job because there's a fair bit of dismantling to do before you can change the gaskets (and covers if they're being replaced). The wiper mechanism, throttle body, upper and lower inlet plenum and VVT solenoids need to be removed for access, a few other bits need to be unbolted / unclipped / etc, a bit of cleaning up to do (grime and bits of old rtv from where the gaskets go over the front cam bearing's), then it all obviously has to be refitted after changing the gaskets.. So that's what's involved for the labour, then there's the cost of the parts themselves. The gaskets are only about £40 for both sides but the covers are around £120 for each side.Is it an expensive job the covers? ill order a new coil now to see if it works. thanks for the input.
Last time I had one that tight I put the bar on at an angle to the ground(touching with bus well in the air) and lowered the bus to let it’s own weight do the job and I still had to pull on the bar lolChanged a front wheel bearing on my Black Elgrand.
The hubnut was ridiculously tight, had a metre long breaker bar with scaff pole on the end of that but it still didn't want to come off even with my full weight (heavy lol) on it, had to use some heat and the breaker bar with scaff pole. Then the bearing took an unusual amount of effort to come off.
Changed the drive-shaft while I was at it because I already had a good driveshaft on the scrap Elgrand I bought for it's engine which has good gators, gators had a hole on my black one. But I'll probably end up putting new gators on the one I removed from the black one and swap them back, just a bit short of time today.
Thanks @Lpgc ...it was as simple (and stupid) as that, the disable switch. Also check you haven't disabled the passenger side window using the pushbutton disable switch near other electric window switches on drivers side door.
