What have you done to your Elgrand today?

Following the light upgrade issues, could be me soon? Desperate for better reversing light as country life requires backing into drive but we don't have street lights. Elgrand campervan got a new name today... The Dolls House. Took it to grand daughter's birthday so family could see what we bought. Big hit, for some reason pop-up bed seems to appeal to the youngsters, little monkeys! A bit 'creaky' when manoeuvring. Slightly warm right rear brake on arrival home. Previous owners quite proud 3 calipers had been replaced, I thinking 4 would be a better number. So...... dig out the jack, pull it apart, nothing wrong except the caliper. 6 or 7 (8? 9?) cycles of piston extend/retract it seems better but not perfect. No time to road test as other duties call. Better to leave the Dolls House 'til tomorrow than be in the Dog House today.

Front, rear diff oil
Engine oil and filter
Brake flush,
Pcv valve
Intake redone with 80mm to 75mm and maf adaptor

Only thing thet left is cabin filters and undercoating…

Changed the nsf wheel bearing on my own black 4wd E51.

I think I mentioned weeks ago that I suspected it was at fault but when I checked it for play and noise it seemed fine... Well since then the noise got a little louder, I still wasn't sure it was the wheel bearing at fault because there was still no play in it, no noise when spinning the wheel off the ground, the noise when driving didn't change when turning left or right it was the same all the time. I did suspect it could be the start of the front diff getting noisy but I changed the fluid in it a couple of years ago, suspected the front prop but couldn't feel any play in the U joints on it.

Pleased to say it turned out it was just the nsf wheel bearing because the noise has gone away now I've changed it. I checked the old bearing after removing and disassembling it, all the rollers looked good but there was a slight scuff in a small area of the outer bearing shell.

The next thing I plan on doing is at least replace the wheel studs for the osr wheel.. It seems a tyre fitter didn't torque the nuts up enough and left them too loose, I didn't hear any noise (as would be expected with a loose nut/s) but the nut(s) being loose led to one stud snapping due to fatigue! Scary stuff. I say at least because there's too much negative camber on this leg and the bushes look tired so I am thinking about replacing the whole bottom arm on that corner since one of the bushes isn't available separately.

I do have a kink whenever buying cars to check wheel lug nuts.

The Elgrand I bought recently had all lug nuts finger tight. Checked the torque and wasn’t close to 20Nm. Crazy stuff.

I copperslipped my Bolt and Hook and gave my spacesaver some titivation.

The pipe lagging stops the cradle from defoming the tyre.
I had the misfortune of getting a puncture on Tuesday, and when I tried to get the spare cradle down, the rear hinges were seized, as I don't think it had been released since the day the Elgrand was made. I managed to get it down in the end, but now have to make sure I give it a good lubrication, and occasionally lower it so I don't get the problem again. I am also going to use your tip of the pipe lagging, I would never have thought of that. Luckily my tyre was repairable as the puncture happened 100 yards from home, and the screw was in the centre of a tread block.

I would suggest to all owners who have a spare wheel that has not seen the light of day to try to access it before they need too, and check the pressure too, as mine was a bit low on air, but luckily I was at home so it wasn't a problem for me.

If I bought something like that and it was delivered to my drive unseen, as my van was, I would have pi55ed my pants and gone for a 3 day drive ( after I had changed my pants, of course.)

Enjoy it and get used to people staring and pointing, also random strangers will accost you and try and be your new friend. 😆

I’ve got to feel a bit sorry for your neighbour with the VW Van I feel he will keep his curtains shut for a while.

👍

I've been grinning since 11o'clock this morning 😁 yeah already had plenty of stares. Kinda used to that from my other one though.
Yeah I don't talk to the vw neighbour much, it sounds like a tank as well.
