What have I bought? How to get basic information about your Elgrand

Great info, thanks. Cant wait for technical access. Meanwhile, I have a conundrum. Found a 2005 Highway Star. Confirmed it's a HS on epc-data. BUT, in the flesh it has a main grill typical of a Rider. There is no lower Rider grill only the little front spoiler typical of an Urban Selection, Highwaystar. I'm thinking this may be a repair job but maybe some Urban Selections optioned the rider grill although I havent found anything to suggest this. I have already spent $100 on both autocheck.jp and carvx.jp on other dealer cars. Both had false kms. So will do this again but trying to save some dollars before committing to a history on what may be yet another dodgy car. Suggestions really appreciated.

I thought I had a deposit on a HWS until @Winchester pointed out this wasn't strictly the case. It is V/VG and has twin square exhausts and beige cloth interior.... I'd upload a pic if I could work out how!
My question is, is there much difference between what I thought I was buying (a HWS) and what it actually is?
I've placed a deposit and can see the vehicle when it arrives. I will get the VX report too.
Doesn't have twin square exhausts! It turns out I've got no idea what I'm looking at!!! 😅

I have certainly been in your position had 4 vehicles all in the same place so could compare them but at that time all the variations meant nothing to me the guy selling knew his stuff but wanted full leather (the wife did) was looking for white originally ( they are faster I’m told) so got an HSW full leather 70kmiles 09 plate g30 black Grade 4d/c on vx report drives great love it

If you have bought and Elgrand, or you are looking to buy and want to know/confirm basic details, you can use the EPC Data database to get quick answers.

If you click the link below and enter the chassis number, it'll tell you more info about your Elgrand, including the model, engine, variant, colour codes and optional extras from factory.

https://Nissan.epc-data.com/Elgrand/

For example, here is mine

1548841738487-png.13497

1 = Model (E50/E51)
2 = Engine (VQ35/VQ25/QD32/ZD30/VG33/ETC)
3 = Transmission (2WD/4WD)
4 = Production Month
5 = Number of seats from Factory (7/8)
6 = Variant (V/X/HWS) - NOTE Rider will show as V/VG as they are BASIC modles taken by Autech to finish off, and optional extras added)
7 = Interior Colour Scheme
8 = Paint Code (If your Elgrand is 2 Tone, you will need to use the paint code above to find the 2 separate colour codes)
9 = Optional Extras (I don't have any listed, but other models will. Hover mouse over for more info).

On another note, if you are looking to buy, and you want to make sure all the boxes are ticked, you need a Car VX Report. You can find out more about these in the technical section of the forum (when you have 10 posts, or immediate access for premium members). The Car VX report is a MUST for any buyer, just to make sure the history of the vehicle checks out. It will give you peace of mind when you place your order and has helped more than a few of our members steer clear of some potential disasters (clocked cars, bad history, different model information etc). It's important you understand what the Car VX report is, and how to use it, so make sure you read all the info in the section below. Do not just go to the website and get a free report - you'll get wrong info and create unnecessary problems for yourself.

Great info for Newbies. Thanks

Thank you for the post! Is it worth getting a VX report and/or chassis check for a private sale on a car that’s already had a UK owner? Thanks!

The VX will show the vehicle history whilst in Japan and will highlight any accidents, defects and repairs that may have been carried out before export. You may find the UK seller has one already.

Can anyone tell me how to know if I have a series 1 or a series 2 E51?

Series 1 has a bar through the headlights up to 2004 series 2 and 3 does not.
There is other differences inside only minor but it's the quickest way if you are looking for a vehicle from the outside.

This is really helpful. Can‘t wait to start tapping in details when find what I’m looking for 👀

Just used it and I have a question if I can find what these options mean?

COLD2 - I guess it's self explanatory aircon in the back

KYLS4 -???

NAVI3 - again some common sense 😉

STERG - audio controls maybe?

Thanks for any insight

reallu useful, thankyou

This might be a daft question, but where can I find the chassis number? I had a look under the bonnet but can’t see anything.

I have a series 1 e51.
I found our chassis number under a little flap next to drivers seat. I was surprised its not a 17 digit VIN number but I guess its different for Japan vehicles?

or upper inner right wing you will find the paint code there as well

Agreed really good link this. I wanted to find out more about my new purchase!
