Underseal

Anyone looked into Buzzweld products (& professional application at their HQ near Bristol?)

I've heard their product 'War' is some of the best going.. apparently their service (around £360) includes a type of 'self healing'
product that the 4x4 guys use that can last towards 10 years!!

Anyone have any experience? Sounds a winner to me atm!

Dee
Did you go ahead with the BuzzWeld?

Hi all ,
After avoiding driving my van in the winter for the last 2 years , my situation changed and decided to go with the full Dinatrol treatment!!
I went to Torque GT in Ashburton / Devon , these guys specialise in Jap imports.
I found them very professional with advice and a honest opinion about the Dinatrol .
They had applied the treatment some 3 years before and had cars back and said it still looked like it been applied a few weeks ago ,and was reasured of a good after sales service!!
I had the full works including inside protection.
I paid £680 which is better then having welding jobs done in the future!!!
Dont take much with some labour charges at £50 - £70 a hour to run up that in a welding bill..

The Elgrand was made for Japanese roads only. Due to their climate, they don't need to salt the roads and therefore they don't need to worry about underseal.

In the UK, however, this is NOT the case. Salt will eat away at the chassis and destroy your pride and joy from the inside out.

When you get a fresh import, buy from a dealer or buy privately... you MUST ensure the underseal has been done.

If buying privately, I would get it re-done no matter what the seller says, as it's sold as seen. But if you buy from a garage you will be protected by some sort of trading standards.

Underseal is basically a product that is applied to the underside of the vehicle that prevents the metal from rusting when it comes into contact with the salt and moisture on our roads. It is VITAL for a long and problem free life for you Elgrand.

There are many options available, starting at around £80 for an "in & out" service. Personally, I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole.

The best options seem to be around the £400 mark. This includes dropping your vehicle off with a garage for 3-4 days. One the first day, they thoroughly steam clean the underside of your vehicle. Second day they apply the first layer of the treatment and leave it to set over night. Day 3 they apply another coat and leave to set overnight. Then you collect on Day 4.

Also, please note that underseal is only temporary. It is not a lifelong product (unless you pay extra for a product that has a life long guarantee!). The quick £80 jobs should probably be done twice a year, at the very least, once a year.

The more expensive jobs should be topped up every 4-5 years. Speak to the professional who does your treatment for their advice as these time scales will vary depending on the product you are using.

I know a few people who are JDM car freaks who pay the £400 for a proper treatment, then £80 for an in and out treatment, and then go back and get the proper treatment re-done every other year. One thing for sure is that they will crash their cars before they rust!

looks like my old delica that was going around the suspension mounts:eek: i sold it with no mot because it was going to fail to a guy that breaks them :cool:he moted it and sold it on

Is it obvious to non-car people the visible difference between something that has and hasn’t been under sealed?

Great and must know info. Thanks

mine was treated by the dealer before sale , at Stourport on seven , its an almost clear cover I think will need replacing every year ,
Bought mine from same garage. Same treatment I was scratching head obout how long think ill go same way. Am lucky though mine is not every day car so if roads been gritted it stays dry in storage 👍

I see the underside of many Elgrands, most of the underseal jobs I see look like someone has used a single aerosol can of underseal from Halfords so they could tick the 'undersealed' box at sale time to a buyer, often supposed to be black stuff but coverage so thin you can see original floor colour through it. Most jobs of underseal don't even seem to include removing the spare wheel to underseal above it, or remove any plastic trim to underseal above... I could achieve much the same results and protection using a single aerosol from Halfords in under 10 minutes. When I undersealed my own Elgrand I used 4 aerosols from Halfords in under 40 minutes, the results look as well/thickly coated and as good a coverage as the best I have seen but I know it won't be as good as some of the best who make sure they get into all the tiny nooks and crannies - Far better than the tick the box types though. If I were buying from most sellers I wouldn't care if they'd undersealed it because I'd prefer to underseal it myself or have a specialist do it. Unless they told me what they'd used, how much of it they'd used and if they'd lowered the spare wheel and plastic undertrays, perhaps also the wheel arch liners, and then if I believed them.

Hi, what are peoples thoughts on Waxoyl type treatments? I have been recommended to use Krown, who I think are West Midlands based.

.. Just to add, I am looking for the hardest wearing and longest lasting underseal. Any advice would be gratefully received, thank you

Afternoon,

I'm on a roll with underseal threads...

Go and look at the Rustbuster website for all things cleaning, prep, underseal and cavity. They're a well established company and regular attenders of classic car shows/advertiser in magazines.

If you want the longest lasting finish its not underseal, its epoxy mastic paint. https://www.rust.co.uk/product/cat/em-121-epoxy-rust-proofing-chassis-paint-7.

It adheres to metal and flexes to avoid cracking and voids that might trap water. If your want to do it right you could epoxy mastic the most vulnerable parts of the rails and suspension components and spray cavity wax into the voids and hard to reach bits. They do a variety of kits.

I'm not affiliated to rustbuster, I've just had good experiences with their products.
