Underseal

I know a couple of people who have had it advised that they're too heavily under sealed at mot hiding what's underneath though I think they do the under seal themselves. I would of thought a professional job like yours is in for should be fine. Mine is in for LPG conversion at the moment but under seal is my next job on the list before winter.. It's a must living in the Peak District we get more than our fair share of snow and Grit

Thanks for that will get it booked in for a cheap do its like New underneath at the moment so would like to keep it like that

Bad way to go. Get it done properly whilst it's pristine. Then you know you only need to get it topped up every now and again.

As for the MOT advisory... In the 4 years I've been running this club, there has never been anyone who has brought this up. So I wholly imagine that anyone who got advised on it has done an awful job and just thrown rubber coating everywhere.

Get it done properly by a reputable garage and then you won't have to worry about the bill later down the line. Once it's done properly, you can take it back once a year for "top ups" or general check ups... and chances are you won't have to pay anything again for 4-5 years.

Get the cheap one done and it needs doing twice a year. Once before winter, once after.

I will look into it Thanks Karl i Luckily have a great Mechanic who is happy to Underseal it for me properly, its the next Job on the list. I'm completely obsessed with the Van and want it to last as long as possible so its good to hear what peoples experiences of Underseal are it sounds like the More expensive job is more economical in the long run anyway

Cheers for the info ........ next big job before winter, not looking forwards to it , have looked around and , prices vary so much , underside £200 all doors and tailgate up to £500, so will tackle it myself ...... and will be using good old Waxoil ......... wax on wax off and all that :triumph:

There are better rated products out there these days for what it's worth. I used the bilt hamber stuff, suppose to be one of the best of them, dinitrol is also said to be very good.

Hi there,
I recently had a full 4 day Dinitrol job done on my 2003 E51 (imported 2017). This included steam clean, box sections etc, including wheel arches. The condition prior to the treatment was very good, so hopefully it will be good for a few years. The place I had it done near Glasgow was a specialist company doing mainly classic and sports cars so I am sure it was a good job. The cost was £650 but I am sure it will be worth it in the long term.
Regards Jackh

I think you have done OK. I am paying almost as much, but wheel arches excluded. 😖

Hi any chance you could tell me where you got yours done I will be looking to get mine done in next couple of months before winter sets in. Thanks

Had mine done by Mercury RV at Conyer in Kent. Seem a reasonable couple of guys there. They gave before and after photos. The rubber plugs were taken out of the sills and Dinitrol injected, but they did not remove the wheel arch protectors. Did say that they had put the lance in by pushing it through the side of the plastic protectors, but am not sure what coverage this will have given. Has anyone had corrosion problems withe the wheel arches?

Hi there,
The wheel arch protectors were removed prior to application of the underseal and then replaced after completion.

Bus is booked in for its underseal on sat, same mechanic as I regularly use, cheap job using "Black rubber stuff" as he described it trust the guy he done my decat last week and said under bus is in good condition just now, so time to get it done I think.

I'm £100 ish so I'm sure it's a cheap job but if proper job needs topped up every year nd lasts 5 what's point? I'll be going to same place for services anyway so he can top up seal as required hillington btw for scottish members

I'd say a proper job needs to be inspected yearly, if anything needs going over (stone chip) it'd be 2 mins with an aerosol, it won't need a full coat every year if it's given the works.
