South West South West area owners. Please respond.

Thanks Paul.

Yes we did have a good time, and what you've said confirms my thoughts about distance, which is absolutely understandable. Petrol is expensive, families have a lot of pressure on them, and time can be scarce, so I think more local meets are the future. That said, perhaps a bigger once a year gathering with camping, at an agreeable destination may well be an idea for us all.

It's like you quite rightly say, Wales is a long way from us, and Cornwall is a long way from you.

Great input. Thanks Paul. Take care.

Keith

In my experience, people are usually more committed when one person decides on a date and location. Opening it up to offers from others makes things very long winded and people end up disagreeing.

Personally, I would do what you did last time, pick a location, a date, and a time, and see who wants to come. Then as more and more people add their names, work on the finer details between yourselves.

I would consider a meet up. Maybe a Christmas thing?
I would however agree that the SW as defined on this board is too big.
Having lived down here all my life, you are 'up North' once you hit a motorway at Exeter :)
and Bristol isn't even in the SW at all (despite claiming to be the capital of it!) Devon and Cornwall is big enough, and I would have the time to get much further afield.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but its just how it has always been...

That before you add in the state of the SW roads - they can be beautiful and fun drives but can make getting anywhere a slow process!

@Whaley what would you suggest then? A Cornwall and a Devon region?

Yeah, I'm in East Cornwall, and east devon is over an hour, as is west cornwall. North Devon can be 1.5 hours.
In context Bristol to birmingham or london is about the same with your foot down (which isn't an option on windy country roads!)

But I'm new here so what do the others think?

I know what you mean @Whaley (I'm in North Devon) and see your point. Meets may be fewer numbers as there's not that many of us down here that are registered here but we could give it a go and see what happens.

I was looking at the member map, there are 3 of us in/near Plymouth @Barney59, @Cliveus, @daichi, @Harvo up in Barnstable way, I'm in Liskeard, and @Spannerdemon is in Exeter. I'm sure there will be a few others around who aren't located on the map....
Plymouth somewhere for a quick meet over xmas?

Depending on the time and or date I could be up for this @Whaley. Don't think spannerdemon is on here anymore though I may be wrong.

@Harvo, sadly, you are correct. Spannerdemon is no longer an active member of the club, and I'm not sure if he'll ever come back. It's a shame, because his insight was always useful and he was always willing to lend a hand.

Yeah, I've read back through some old posts and he did come across as knowledgeable and might I say quite passionate about the club. A great shame to lose a member like that. Hopefully he might venture back at some point.

Once I have mine on the road and reliable I will certainly be up for a noggin & natter. A Xmas event seems a reasonable suggestion although may be a conflict of priorities?

Agree with what has been said about the size of the region, Bristol borders the Midlands in my book.
Even a central D&C meeting point (Launceston or Okehampton?) could still entail a 1½ hour winding drive for someone.

Karl, think it would be sensible for a D&C Chapter along with say a Wessex one? Doesn't stop anybody crossing over if they wish!!!!!

D&C is a deffo in my view. Not many of us on the map, but it can only grow, especially as when you go up country you see cars, but down here every third set of wheels on the road is a van of some form.. Bongo/VW T4/T5/Camper etc etc. it can only be a matter of time before the number of Ellies rises as people start to realise how good they are!

@Barney59 what is up with yours?

@Harvo would you come all the way to Plymouth? Although I know that drive sucks which ever way you go...Hartland point, bude, bodmin etc, or across the moor, or even over to M5 and back down A38....

Wouldn't want to put people out too much, else the enjoyment of the meet dissolves if its a hassle.

Plymouth isn't too bad for me @Whaley. My prefered route is Torrington- Tavistock and a bit of a drive is all part of a meet imo. It'll be nice to meet up with fellow enthusiasts.

Plymouth is the easiest for @Barney59 @Cliveus @daichi looking at the map, and isn't too hard for me either (I work there at present!)

If Barney can let us know when his bus is likely to be operational we could look to get something organised. If not xmas then early in the new year? that might be easier anyway with the commitments everybody has around xmas?
What say you people?

If we can get a date organised we can then work on the exact location....I can think of a few options in the area, but happy to take suggestions :)

I'm good with it being next year. Like you say it might be easier to organise.

I've had mine just under 2 weeks now and have since spotted 6 others in the area, one of which I have ID'd to here
Then there are the peeps from on here already - if we can get this organised it could be a decent number simply in the SE Cornwall/Plymouth area!

Lets spread the word!!!

Eager to get mine on the road, just waiting for HMRC to sent eligibility to tax it,
Oh and to wire up a Fog Light
and to Insure it,
and to MOT it,
and then to Tax it. .. . .

One good thing is that "Betty Rubble" is over the moon with it, but she looked at me suspiciously when I said it would be her job to toothpaste polish the headlights! Too many practical jokes played on her in the past!

Saw a Pearl E51 in West Park/Woodland Fort area of Plymouth last week. May put a flyer on it when next that way.

@patters - these guys are arranging a meet

Right lads , im in Truro and well up for a meet now that i have my Elgrand!!!:)
By the sounds of it , Plymouth is the venue s all we need is a date / time and place:happy:

Getting details for some events. Watch this space.

I can't make this one but down your way there is an attractive event at Spitfire Raceway Perranporth on 12th December. Don't know how busy it is but may appeal to some??
