Hi guys,

Anyone bought from Plexus motors in Keighley Yorkshire? they seem to be ever-present on Ebay with Elgrands and I am about to part with some hard earned cash in their direction, and just wanted to check that they were reputable?

I am buying remotely so somewhat nervous.

Cheers

not heard of them but have you tried Adrian at Winchester motors or matt at ace imports both reputable dealers on here and within easy reach of Hampshire you can find them on e-bay

There are reviews on Google Maps, some apparently from people who have written only 1 review. Premises not visible from the main road - appears to be the back of a factory?

Thanks guys

I met Adrian he is a top fella, didn't quite have the vehicle to tick all the boxes at the time though :(

I have done a bit of due diligance (companies house etc) they have no showroom

There are a few questions you can ask to assess whether they're reputable.

What auction grade is it?
Can they provide the auction sheet and export certificate?
What prep work have they carried out?
Underseal? Decore of cats etc?

The answers should give you a pretty big indication as to whether they're trustworthy and whether they're likely to offer any decent after sales support etc.

I have asked all the questions that I should from the research that I have done, the car arrived last week it has been decored, undersealed MOT'd all new tyres replaced due to cracking, he has kept in touch and sent a video (nothing with the engine running though) so I have asked to see under the hood etc. so I am feeling confident. Auction grade 4b

Any more info on this place? I normally stay well clear of the area, back In the day when subaru’s and evo’s ruled the roads, there was a place in keighley that sold imports, was a shambles to say the least, lots of stories on the Scooby/evo forums, cant remember there previous name, but they changed to motorhub, lots of bad reviews and people being ripped off with shoddy cars, probably nothing to do with these guys, but it’s stuck with me, this place would be within travelling distance for me, for the right car, so hope all‘s well.

I live in the area and haven't heard of them

I did a 2008 Rider from Meherban Hussain, the van was in fabulous condition, better than I hoped, Meherban answered all of my questions as i was very nervous and dealt remotely with him, the first pictures I saw of the van were on the dock in Japan. It came serviced, decored and with a foglight. I have had the van checked over since and its seem like a good one!

I don't think there is a showroom to visit or anything like that, but they seem to know what they are doing.

Any more on this place? we are considering taking a trip there

Sounds like Well Lane, Batley - I bought an Impreza bugeye off them back in the day, they didn’t tell me it was an import (albeit a parallel import from Belgium)

Looking at one there myself....but don't know them at all

I wouldn't dream of buying a car unseen. Unless its really cheap why would you take the gamble? It might absolutely reak of fag smoke for a start, loads of them do and the reason I rejected my first Elgrand after putting a deposit down while it was in transit.

On the same theme what does anyone know of the car warehouse, Middlesbrough? Loads of Elgrands there and a couple of 350x I like the look of, although not sure where the x model fits into the Elgrand tree?

I know someone who bought a ford explorer there yrs ago, said he'd used them before for an import and they were fine.

Had considered Car Warehouse. Not members of BIMTA. Reviews go back at least 6 years - older ones somewhat mixed. They claim not to do a hard sell but there again some staff apparently reported to be not that helpful. Wide range of vehicles other than Elgrands including some really whacky ones. Recommend if you visit make sure they are expecting you/know where the vehicle is. While up there probably a good idea to visit Vine Place.

I had also looked at Car Warehouse Middlesborough, they have a very interesting list of vehicles, and current count of over 50 Elgrands! Probably the most in the UK from one seller? I was put off also by the mixed reviews, but also - there is no mention of decoring the cats on their sale prep list. I spoke with them about this and they said that decoring the cats is not needed now on Elgrands, as the problem only affected Series 1 E51 Elgrands as it was a fuel issue, therefore they do not decore. From research (on this forum) I believe this to be incorrect, and therefore I took this as a bad sign. Be interested to hear others thoughts on this. Should all sellers be decoring the cats?

Other good sellers I think (from reading reviews etc) are Worcester Road Motors, Justjapanese, and New Acre (though they tend to be mainly Alphard specialists)
