wow - that's amazing - is that for a full campervan conversion - did you specifically get that covered ... and presumably you have no claims. I've got 9 years NCD (have driven for over 30 years) but had a claim in 2018 and my OH has 3 points for a SP30 ... a lot aren't able to insure at all and estimates starting at almost 3 times that!

thanks - did you have to specify the modifications? can i ask how much and whether you/ other named drivers have any recent claims / points?

Got mine through Performance Direct last year just got the renewal notice from them it was £362.24 which I wasn't very happy about so I went on Compare the Market and it came up at £234.16 with exactly the same Broker exactly the same insurance company which is Highway part of LV a good saving just proves you have to shop around I saved £128 that was with one claim my fault no payout.

I'm with Adrian Flux I have my Elgrand and Jaguar XJ6 (X300) insured fully comp for £330. £190 Elgrand £140 Jag multi car policy

Im trying to get quotes for the Elgrand Im picking up at the weekend, Adrian Flux have quoted me £555 as a 'camper in conversion' (as thats the plan at some point). As my NCB is being used on my Mini, I have none for the Elgrand....I still thought the quote was a bit high though? If I find a cheaper quote through a 'normal' more mainstream company -will the insurance still be valid even once I start the conversion?-Do I just neeed to notify them/DVLA (?) once its complete does anyone know?.....thanks in advance.....

Greenlight can't offer me insurance as its not a modified vehicle (as far as I know!)....really struggling and may have to go with AdrianFlux :worried:

Hi Bob, Ive just tried Mark Richard (JapCover?) but they won't cover Liverpool postcodes......eeeek...do you know of any others that might be worth a shot? Thanks!

not offhand im sure there are other Liverpool owners on here

This might sound bad but , don’t tell them you live in Liverpool! Rent a room somewhere posh( the lakes maybe) or air bb, pay to get you mail forwarded. Use a family members address somewhere else! They have screwed us for years.

We've just got a lot of quotes, and have ended up going with Performance Direct, really good customer service so far, and good excess and extras included

Insurance is always a hot topic of conversation, especially when it comes to Japanese Imports.

As a general rule of thumb, there should be no real "premiums" for insuring the Elgrand over any other vehicle in it's class. The problem you may find is that insurance databases are not always as up to date as they should be when it comes to imports.

Typically, you want to be going for a Japanese Import Specialist insurer. These are usually the best in terms of keeping up to date with import vehicles on their database. They will also, USUALLY, be the most competitive.

Do NOT bother wasting time with comparison sites for your Elgrand... they will throw up ridiculous quotes and just be a waste of your time. Go to insurance companies directly.

My general advice to anyone who asks is to follow the below:

Contact Adrian Flux. Give them all your details and get a quote - I would not recommend taking a policy out with Flux due to the level of complaints I have seen/heard from people in the event of a claim. But, this is just hearsay really, so it's up to you if you choose to insure with them.

Ring Sky Insurance, give them all your details and the quote you got from Flux, they will, most of the time, beat it.

Ring GreenLight Insurance (our Insurance partner), give them your details, give them your cheapest quote, and then tell them you are a member of ElgrandOC to get your 15% discount. If they cannot beat the quote from Sky, go with them.

There are a lot of members who are more than happy, or have had their best quotes from some of the normal, big name insurance companies such as Direct Line, Admiral, Aviva etc. So if you really want to get a comparison across the board, ring some known insurance companies too and see if they can be competitive or not. But I would advise you ring the three Jap Import Specialist insurers listed above first, and then go to the big known insurance companies.

There is a whole different routine you will have to take to insure a FRESH IMPORT that has NOT BEEN REGISTERED. You need to insure on the Chassis number etc, and things are more complicated overall... so if you are looking at insuring an Elgrand off the boat to get in home for MOT etc, then please check in the "Import Experiences" forum section to see what others have done.

Hope this helps.
Hi, do you have contact details for Sky Insurance as one i am finding on google is for short term insurance - max 30days
