Hi,

I'm very close to buying my first E51 but need help deciding between a couple local to me as one is 2.5 4x4 and the other is 3.5 2wd.

I initally wanted a 3.5 but the 2.5 one available near me is very very nice.

2007 2.5 4wd highway star autech in white
40000mls
very very clean condition, looks almost new
£8k

2006 3.5 2wd highway star in black
75000mls
interior perfect
few minor marks on the bodywork
This one has and LPG system installed by a very well respected company
£7k

I'm concerned I will regret going for the 2.5 instead of the 3.5 and the lpg on the 3.5 really appeals to me.
Any input/advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Some will say that 2.5 is underpowered which it is as has less horse power than 3.5. I do have 2.5 and is decent for what it is. The good thing about your choices is that one has lpg and is 3.5. If you care about the body and interior , go with the 2.5 , If you want more engine power go for 3.5.

Hang on for a 3.5L, if that's the one you set your heart on. Getting temped by low hanging fruit often ends up with regret.
There will be shed loads of even more suitable 3.5Ls if you play the patience game.

People will say the 2.5 is underpowered for a reason, it is 😂

I drove both, I couldn't live with the 2.5 but that's me, you may be fine with it, only way to find out is drive both.

Personally I would rather the cleaner out of the 2 (The 2.5)

I own a 2.5, It has enough power to do its thing ( Moving people in comfort )

I would like the Extra power as it's always nice to have .... But harder you push the accelerator pedal the faster you run out of petrol in an Elgrand

How long have these been in the UK? 2.5 mileage proven genuine? Dealer or private sales (hence consumer protection)? LPG consumption, eg miles per litre, is roughly 10% worse than petrol - in some areas LPG is close to the price of petrol. On average how many passengers in the Elgrand - weight can affect performance. 2.5 might be Series 3 hence conversion to English dash easier?

Hi,

The 2.5 was imported last year and the 3.5 has been here since 2019.

Both private.

Can get lpg for 90p locally.

there will usually be 3 ppl max in the car but most long runs just me.

Both s2

But what if the 3.5 cost much less to run than the 2.5 because the 3.5 was converted to LPG while the 2.5 wasn't? ;-)

Sadly not worth it in my local area. The closest LPG pump for me is currently £1.20 and petrol £1.33 and £1.40 for super.

£1.10 at my local Morrisons but 86p at my most local area... at home filling from red bottles.

There is a fairly local forecourt selling at 92p.

Question, what's the benefits of LPG, is it cheaper or does it actually give you more mpg?

The main benefit is that it's cheaper. You don't get more mpg on LPG than on petrol, in fact you get slightly less mpg but the cheaper price more than offsets the slightly lower mpg unless they charge ridiculously high prices for it.

Other benefits too such as it burns cleaner so is better for the engine.

Ability to have LPG delivered to home in bottles and refuel at home without needing to visit a forecourt since I started making the pumps.
