Just to clear a few things up, as I know some people get irate about mispronunciation... although, I once read that you should never knock someone who pronounces a word wrong, as they have learnt it through reading... but, let's leave that there and just help people to understand the topic in hand.

Elgrand - it's one word, and one E.

It is not El-Grand, and it is not Elgrand-e.

It is pronounced as one word with NO emphasis on any one letter. ie It's not pronounced Elgrand-AY or Elgrand-EE

I guess the easiest way to put it is that you say Elgrand the same way you say England**, just with a couple of different letters.

**note: do not add the extra syllable that football fans seem to add when they are chanting - EN-GER-LAND. Although if anyone wants to start chanting at a meet, I guess "EL-GER-AND" is going to be the best way to chant and make yourself look stupid :joy:

Hope this helps anyone who is new to the vehicle.

Oh, and before anyone takes this as being condescending, it is NOT meant that way. Honestly, mispronouncing words is something I know I get embarrassed about myself...

For example, @Pippa always pronounces "Nutella" very differently to me. I had a go at her for saying it wrong and that I didn't want my kids pronouncing it wrong... later to find that she was actually right all along and it was ME that was in the wrong (learning curve for a lot of people here I think).

It's pronounced "New-tell-uh"... NOT "NUT-TELL-UH" (links below for reference).

So this post really is just to try and help people pronounce Elgrand correctly so that they don't get embarrassed at their first meet or when talking to other owners.

Very strange that all the UK ads for their product pronounce it "NUT-TELL-UH" You would think that they would make sure that the correct pronunciation would be used in their ads, so either the above is crap or they have brought it on themselves....

Oooohh Nutella!! Love the stuff!

Nutella is made from oil extracted from Nuts not from Newts - therefore you are right Karl, and the video and your missus are both wrong. it's NUT - even here in Australia where they say everything else wrong. ( what the fook is a doona ? )

Its actually pronounced as Noo-tella not NEW or NUT :)

Aussies are funny people. They ask a question and then answer it themselves.
"What's your name Sheila?"
"What do you do at weekends sport?"
"What's your favourite colour Blue?"
:)

Haha I have lived in Oz on and off for over 25 years and i have never heard anyone use the terms sheila , sport or blue !
I think those terms died out in the 70s here.

But is it simply "Elgrand"? Could it be the same misconception as Nutella?

I don't know, I'm not particularly Japanese.

Doesn't really bother me, I'm originally from Norfolk, we pronounce everything wrong...

I'm glad this thread popped up @Karl in your signature you apparently have an 1998 Nissan El Grand? Can you please address this.

Unfortunately, I can't - that's Fuelly's fuck up not mine. But to be honest, I don't use it any more.

So, to fix this issue, I'll just delete them :joy:

Can you not just delete the duff one

Can you not just delete the duff one

I don't use it at all any more, so it's not really relevant. So got rid of them both.
