E51 E51 Aircon Pipe Corrosion (Rear)

Hi all,
Read through (9 pages!) of threads; it looks like my E51 has fallen foul of this as well. Clearly i need to get the leak attended to, but has anyone got a link to buying the cover so that i can re-instate it, as mine has well and truly rotted (see attached)?
Brian at BMR has had blanking plates made up which would be easier, but an Aircon engineer should be able to blank off so the front can be made to work.

My pipe leaked and i cleaned it found it was pin holed. I wrapped it tight tight with epoxy putty recharged the air con and have been fine since last year.

Ask @stevemen for a cover, he is our favourite Elgrand breaker.

Are people blanking off and ripping out their rear air con unnecessarily ?

It would depend on the position and extent of the corrosion, most seem to go internally and so cannot be sealed. Some have done a similar thing to you with varying degrees of success. I don't know whether the extent of previous use and frequency of re-gasing makes a difference but everything has a finite life.

When mine lost gas I had to urgently travel over a hot summer with pets and needed reliable air con quickly so I just had it blanked off at the front as I never have rear passengers anyway.

I blanked mine off. Don't think many people have much luck trying to seal the leak. The air con specialist that did mine were certain the could weld it, until they tried...

Did Brian eventually get these made? I know he used mine to make templates but the engineering firm lost them and never heard anymore. Got it fixed anyhow, although the compressor is on it's last legs now too.

It's not an easy thing to repair as it's a coaxial system with a narrow pipe within a larger one. I guess if you catch it early an external wrap would work for a while, but in the cases I've read on here they have failed again before too long.

He definitely had a limited number for sale on Facebook a while ago.

Yes Brian at BMR has them. I bought one off him a few weeks ago but not got it fitted yet as my preferred garage to fix it is still closed due to Covid-19. Anyway it's a bit cooler here at the moment so not in any rush.

Imho they're better without the cover.

Yes, I know Brian got them made.

I recently fitted one of Brian's blanking jobs, a very easy job, the worst part was removing & replacing the plastic undertray (10 x 6mm bolts) then get it regased , no problems since.
the joint between the front and rear system is on the passenger side, just above the rear bush of the front wishbone, near the O2 sensor in the exhaust.

Yes, I've got one on order from @BMR . He's just awaiting more stock

I was browsing recently just in case I needed one. They are listed at the very bottom of this page https://bmr-automotive.com/e51-parts
Thanks Icools, and everyone else on this thread.
My mechanic (who i trust completely) had a look this morning and couldn't see exactly where the leak was, so I have decided to join the not-so-exclusive 'blank it off and get on with your life' club.
Blanking kit on order from BMR.
I love this forum.

No problem, I only posted a link :p
A “nitrogen test” (In a garage) was the next step my aircon engineer suggested if I had a leak that was hard to spot. Could be an option.

Anybody know if there's any update for expected arrival of stock of the air con blanking kit at @BMR 's ?

Don't want to block up Brian's phone if he's sorting out other parts for customers :)

I don't have a delivery date yet; an earlier thread suggested that they would be in around the end of June, so fingers crossed ....
I'm certainly not doing any long trips in this weather until I get some aircon back on.
