It's time we started some friendly competitions... and we're going to kick off with something that everyone can get involved with.
The idea behind this is to break up all the shit news we are getting on a daily basis, and to relieve anxiety relating to the 2nd national lockdown we're heading into. The aim here isn't really to win, it's just to share some good news stories with members to help lift people's spirits, so in essence, everyone can be a winner, even if they don't enter. Hopefully any members who are really struggling will read these posts and realise that there is still good going on in the world, and that happiness is literally around the corner in everything we see.

So, before I go into details about the competition, this is what is up for grabs. Winner will be the post with the highest reaction score (likes, etc).
  1. First Prize - £100
  2. Second Prize - £50
  3. FOUR RUNNERS UP - £25 each
  4. MYSTERY PRIZE - Ooooohhhh Aaaahhhhhh
Entries will be closed Friday 13th November @ 9pm
Final reaction score count will be done Friday 27th November @9pm

To enter, all you need to do is tell us about something that has happened this year that has made you smile. It can be something as simple as a message from an old friend, or a full heart-warming story that pulls on the heartstrings. Pictures are not required, but will be beneficial as a photo tends to draw more attention to your post. If your story is as simple as a message from an old friend, include a screenshot (just blank out any sensitive data before you post).

RULES: Keep it clean! NO CHAT. Please do not reply to someone's post saying "aww that's lovely" or engage in any conversation regarding a post. Any such posts will be deleted, and if you have also entered, your entry will be removed. We don't want to detract from people's posts with pages and pages of nonsense. This does NOT have to be Elgrand related, or car related in any way shape or form. Entries can be about anything (as long as they are clean!). ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. If you change your mind regarding the story you want to share, then please delete your previous entry, ask any of the club staff for assistance if you need help.

On a side note. If any members of this group are suffering with any mental health issues, please reach out. It's OK to not be OK.

My story starts 3 years ago.

My boys have always been dog lovers, my eldest especially. 3 years ago, I was living in shared accommodation and @Pippa was basically living there with me. We returned from ASDA with some shopping and my eldest needed the toilet, we let him go unattended as he had done many times before. On his return, the dog living in the house became suddenly aggressive and attacked him.
The attack was pretty brutal. He broke his arm, had cuts to his face, shoulder, arm, wrist and hand. He was hospitalised to treat his wounds, but the emotional damage was not as easy to fix. A boy who loved dogs more than anything was now petrified of them. Not only this, but his two younger brothers, although not physically injured, also became very wary around dogs.
I've never really forgiven myself for the attack, as I should not have been complacent with the kids around a dog, but I cannot turn back time.

IMG_20171007_152354.jpg

Fast forward 3 years, and we move onto the happy part of the story.

@Pippa and I are now living in our own house (amazing how much can change in such a relatively short time). The kids live with their mother in Leeds but we have them 2/3 weekends and the odd week when they are off school. COVID-19 has not been particularly hard on us personally, but Pippa has struggled with not being able to freely see her family and has been stuck in the house working from home since March. Her mental health took a battering due to the isolation of home working and the restrictions on socialising.
The boys, especially Alexander, had almost 100% mentally recovered from the dog attack, and had asked a few times about us getting a dog. I'd always said no as both Pippa and I work full time and didn't want to leave a dog alone for extended periods of time. But, now that Pippa is working from home and I am self employed, options opened up a little. I read up about the mental health benefits of having a dog. I also read about the number of dogs being given up to shelters after the "puppy boom" earlier in the year and I finally relented.

Last week we got Stormie. She's a 16 month old Bull Lurcher who has had a less than happy life thus far. She spent most of her puppy life tied to a radiator and generally being neglected. She's been through a number of homes that we know of. I imagine she was returned due to the fact she was never socialised with other dogs and she's pretty much incontrollable on walks. We've given her a forever home, and we're working with her to resolve her behavioural issues.

PXL_20201023_153943964.jpg

After we got her, she had a week to settle with us before we had the boys for the weekend. On Thursday last week I picked them up and brought them home but left it as a surprise that we had a dog. I got them all to sit on the sofa and then we brought her in. I told them to sit quietly and not make much noise regardless of how excited they were.

Over the weekend the boys bonded with Stormie more than we imagined. They absolutely love her, and she absolutely loves them. She's been super gentle with them, even when playing and spent most of her time cuddling them... or being tortured by them :joy:

IMG-20201103-WA0016.jpg IMG-20201103-WA0013.jpg IMG-20201103-WA0008.jpg

But, I saved the best pictures until last. These are of Alexander, my eldest, with Stormie. She has become his new best friend. He has a blanket that he takes everywhere with him. He's always wrapped up in it, even in summer. It's a huge comfort to him and he doesn't share it with anyone unless told he has to. He was a little wary at first, but as the weekend went on, his confidence and love for her grew exponentially.

My heart melted watching the bond between them all grow, but moreso with Alexander. We were a little nervous about her size, but he's totally besotted with her and just wanted to be next to her all weekend.

IMG-20201103-WA0006.jpg IMG-20201103-WA0007.jpg

Overall, Stormie has been a blessing. She's brought so much to our lives in just a week. We saved her, she's saved us.
I'm so proud of her and she's become a deeply loved member of the family. Can't wait to pick the kids up again this weekend so they can spend more time with her.

She's brought us laughter, love and comfort. And we hope that we've given her the same.

So the start of this year started pretty shit for me.

Friday 6th March I went out with the mrs for her birthday, had an awesome night apart from getting thrown out of a club at 2am for being too drunk, hey hoe shit happens on that side of things. Fast for 5 hours and I was awoken by the singer of my band, very unusual for him to be up at that time let alone ring me, at that point my entire world was tipped upside down as he told me the bassist of our band had hung himself.

2 weeks later and we were sat in the pub for his funeral wake, and BJ announced the lock down as of the next day. Slightly more annoying for me as I was designated driver for the day due to not being able to take the Saturday off work.

5 months later and we’re going into August, my self and the lads are wanting to do a charity gig as a farewell to him. Little did we know at that point it would be the final gig we would ever play due to the family of the deceased bassist no longer wanting the band to continue.
I spent 3 weeks organising the gig, from booking the venue, to organising the bands, to contacting MIND charity to organise giving money to themselves.

we played the gig on the august bank holiday, and we were massively surprised to find we had raised just over 1k in ticket sales and in raffles on the night.

Now I am finally starting to get my self back into music, and have just started singing in a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes tribute band. No matter what life throws at you, keep your head up high and keep chipping away at it.

Well, whilst I have also had more than my fair share of crap this year, I will focus on the most positive thing (no not my test results), but this woman's...

Well they say "if you want it, put a ring on it!" Although I expect the wedding won't be until sometime next year, at least until after the COVID situation stabalises...

I managed to get a pre-order for a PlayStation 5 on launch day (19th November) at a Game store near work. As we now won't be in lockdown in Wales then I can pick it up without breaking the local lockdown laws that were in place when I queued to get it (I was on my way to work anyway so not that bad (and was to be honest a little late!!)), as the store is in a different county to where I live!! So can't wait for my fourth launch day PlayStation in a row... certainly keeping me smiling thinking about getting it home!!

Attached is a photo of the empty space I have already made for it to live next to the PS3 and PS4....

Still impatiently waiting to become E51 owner.
Travelled 260 miles on Tuesday to work in Swindon til Friday (did not spot any Elgrands) . Only to be told on arrival that Premier Inn may close Thursday for lock down, (first thought was, If only I had my E51 I would have somewhere to sleep).
Wednesday Premier Inn decide to stay open but not offering food from end of the day (if I had my E51 camper I could do my breakfast).
Gutted stuck here til Friday then another 260 mile drive home to the joy of lock down.
Hey not all doom and gloom though!!
I got a call from Vine Place to tell me that they managed to get my E51 through customs and into their care just before the dreaded lock down and they will be working to prep it and fit theTrekker conversion during lock down (relief).
So guess who is now starting the 6am journey home (firstly searching for a breakfast) Grinning like a daft lad for 4+hours, passing those common VWs and imagining the next work trip in my exclusive E51 Trekker wondering what the Vdub lot think when the beast from the rising sun passes by.
Small mercies to keep us sane, looking forward to clearing the garage and making space for the new addition.

My story starts in November last year. A regular skin check turns into bad news. I have melanoma in my back. After a biopsy and what I thought would be a week for result I get called back 2 days later to get rushed into surgery to have it removed. I had what they call a widow maker. Basically if I waited another 6-12 months I wouldn't have been writing this message. December things get worse and long sorry short I end up becoming my wifes primary carer for the next 5 month while she gets her mental health back on track. Then I think things start looking up and I end up purchasing my 2002 Series 1 highway star. It comes with aftermarket 17s and tein coilovers. And boy is she a beauty. Fast forward to October and bang. Another skin cancer, but inside my ear this time. After talks with the surgeon we decide to do a pull through procedure. Basically cutting a hole in my ear the size of 5p and pulling a flap of skin from behind my ear and through the hole. The next 3 weeks I'm in excruciating pain and bam. Massive infection causing nerve damage in my ear. Through the whole ordeal and not working all year due to surgery, recovery and covid, as corny as it sounds, driving and working on the van puts a smile on my face every dam time. Pics included is of my surgerys, infection 20191216_150920.jpg20200928_155620.jpg20200928_155631.jpg20201011_141727.jpg20201022_123632.jpgFB_IMG_1603060932449.jpg20200902_155256.jpg giving the land yacht a bath :) anyway thanks for taking the time to read and bring on 2021.

As some of you know, we look after children who need a home for a variety of reasons. This year has been so difficult with COVID at the best of times but especially difficult for a teenage looked after child to cope. Our girl of 2 years age15, has coped so well, hasn’t seen her birth mum since February which you think is the same for many ppl but she has anxiety issues and seeing mum looks ok is one of her worries, she has had school and routines scrapped, suffered mentally etc.
Anyway, she just this week had her school review for sept- nov term. And what makes me Smile is she has had her 1st EVER term without any sanctions at school and has improved her predicted grades for her GCSEs next spring.
So please don’t hit like for me, do it for her 💕

So mine starts at the beginning of the first lockdown 😂

I’m so happy that we pulled together an helped the NHS with 3D printed face masks and ear savers, this pandemic is so frustrating an any bit of kindness an help goes a long way.

So that’s the first thing I’m proud of doing ❤️

1B058751-8ABB-4179-A883-54DBA76EA7AD.jpeg528B167A-8963-46B8-8526-0CB7F2600B7C.jpeg

Now some of you will know I suffer with a seizure disorder an it’s so frustrating as it stops me from doing so much I get exhausted from doing the simplest thing.
So these next things have been a massive achievement for me won’t be for others but it definitely is for me.

window art I’ve just got a thing for showing positive things this year an it’s really helped me even though each window look has made me have more seizures 🤦‍♀️
but at least I had something out of it 😂😂

so here’s the first one this was for all the key workers at the start of the first lockdown.
3C241195-8079-4013-9FC5-6473DC9F2682.jpeg

Then my next one was for halloween this again was hard work.
3FE31308-FCAD-4B17-B800-1D3C72780FD8.jpeg

Now for my recent one for Remembrance Day 2020
This is obviously one that meant a lot to me an my family. 5CFD96AE-C7F8-4D71-B50F-7288A748F11E.jpeg

I will also be doing one for Christmas not sure what yet 🤦‍♀️😂
But I’m so proud of myself to keep at it even when I wanted to quit half way through. They might have taken me longer than normal people an made me have extra seizures but I’m definitely so happy with them. ❤️❤️

A happy thought from 2020, some would say hard to find one and i can understand why
Me. i will now always remember 2020 as being the end or start of a 7year story---to cut a long story short 7 year ago we met a certain little boy who was having a very very hard time coming to terms with life itself (horrible for a two year old)---due to his difficulties mental and physical he had three different carers in two weeks and we were to be the fourth ,was a little daunting hearing what the other carers had gone through and what they ,without knowing had put him through (we weren't looking forward to this one) until we met him that is, ---now i'm trying to write this with some info but as some will know we are held to certain confidentiality rules and rightly so, but, lets just say we went through hell and back several times but with the help of others and patience from us and the rest of our family he is doing great and is still with us and that in itself is a happy enough thought but i can top it
Even though covid tried it's hardest to stop proceedings this year we still managed to jump through all the legal hoops, delays, etc etc and finally 2020 became the year our Adoption papers came through---he's ours and always will be (to be honest i think he always was) so yep 2020 for us will be a happy memory

Well you all know that I work at a funeral directors and one funeral this year made me smile.
I was conducting a funeral of this man who had fallen down the stairs and passed away from his Injuries.

The wife was a bit off and didn't really want to talk to me or anyone else come to that.

Anyway the funeral went as expected and when we reached the grave and his final resting place, we all stood around the grave and the vicar blessed and committed the deceased.

When finished I walked over to the wife who hadn't shed a tear at all, all the way through the ceremony. I offered my sincere condolences on her loss and he'd been a good man and had a good life, to which she replied, "no condolences needed, if he hadn't have been stubborn and used the new stair lift he wouldn't have fallen and broke his bloody neck.
I was a bit shocked at her answer but as I walked away, but I had to snigger to myself.

Lockdown had it's bonus' for us. As our cat that'd been missing for 5 years was found! Whether it was down to the lower amount of traffic on the roads or that fact that more people were at home, who knows. But when we got a meesage to say she'd be found and micro chipped scanned we were over the moon! She's settled right back into the family life too 😍Screenshot_20201111-103135.pngScreenshot_20201111-103215.png
