Planning to buy an e51

#1
Hi all, been lurking on the forums for a while. Originally was looking to buy an e50 for approx. 3k but everything we looked at had too much rust, have now decided to go for an e51 approx 6/7 k budget. After spending time trawling gumtree autotrader etc and visiting the only jap import specialist near us have decided to import via an agent. That decision was made due to this excellent forum I think I've read every thread on import experiences excellent information.

Question i'd like to ask you all after chatting to a couple of agents is does it really make much difference what agent you go for the one we seem to like the most is also the most expensive at 750 plus a further 450 to get changed to mph and a nice fog light cut into bumper. the others seem to all be 500 and then you get all the other stuff done yourself as i'm in Renfrewshire i'd need to pick the car up from Newcastle. Any advice welcome on which agent to go for.

Couldn't comment on agents but £450 for a £70 mph fascia and a £20 for light is a bit much. Dont get a fog light cut into the bumper it looks proper poop, mine is quite discreet ans is screwed into the underside of the bumper, nut during the summer months I lose it for the purpose of looking cool. Probably should pop it back on round about now

Watching this with interest ,I've talked about importing one for a couple of years but never did get round to it ,I was thinking of using respect ,due to the gd feedback I've heard about them ,my main prob isnt who to go threw ,but more to which elgrand to get e50 or e51 ,I'm not struck on e51 front end but love the rest of car ,I have a 3.5 e50 which is prob best of both worlds for me ,but still fancy a e51,gd luck with your search and hope somebody who can help will be along soon

Yep collection from Port the only difficult part of using agent in Japan and diy here. Thankfully I have a van that tows big trailer so was able to collect.
Definitely don’t cut bumper for fog, slimline led under bumper fog much cleaner look. HWS or X/XL with front fogs just wire rear into them no need for nasty aftermarket switch on dash. And a £20 gps speedo and oe km speedo is my preferred solution there as you don’t have to mess with fascia.

Have had a chat with dan from first choice imports 500 and the car gets a check over before you bid so peace of mind for me. Will take the advice of getting fog light not cut into bumper and will at some point just change the facia to read mph. Time to fill in the form thanks fellas. If anyone knows of a good garage in Newcastle that could fit a fog light and mot it so that I don't have to drive all the way to Scotland with no mot it would be appreciated.

Hi if you look back through my posts I put up full detail on all the costs.

Pretty sure dan was getting fed up with me due to me being stuborn with spec etc. What I have bought is exactly what I wanted, I've not seen anything in the Uk from a trusted Uk dealer for that sort of price and It's not really possible for me to travel around the country looking at them (6 kids no easy way to offload them :p ) Plus the cost of that soon adds up if you don't find the right one straight away. This way the Looking over of the car was done by someone else that has been given the thumbs up by other members on here.

No idea if its the right thing i've done but i'm happy with it so far and rather excited for it arrive just hope it's here around the time my horrible citreon c8 runs out of mot as i'm not spending another penny on that piece of crap.

Nice looking Ellie, I bet you are already getting excited. The wait will seem like a lifetime but will be well worth it.

I'm assuming that you are thinking of using Japautoagent, those quoted prices sound familiar. If so I can guarantee that the service will be great. The £450 is not for a fascia cover! (that's the cheapo way of converting) its for a reprogramming of the car's electronics so that it will count in miles rather than km, thus the speedo will work without the need for a messy fascia cover and the economy readouts will also be in miles.. Plus you will be able to look at the nice smart Nissan fascia, as it should, look every time you sit behind the wheel... long after the £450 has faded from memory... well worth it in my opinion (the odometer will also be converted to the correct reading in miles so you wont have to perform mathematics in future). And the bumper mounted fog light is a quality item and is well fitted unlike the cheap ones that hang down and require replacement every year because they rot in winter, I know because I used them on my Pajero a few years ago...... An alternative view to the one above.... but its your choice at the end of the day.

The chips often fail, it's not some fancy reprogramming it's a plug in chip; also it leaves you trying to explain in the future that XX,000 on the clock is KM and then the rest in miles or with the illegal rolling back of the clock to change it.

The bumper mounted fog light is also massively un needed and untidy, much less invasive options are available that look much nicer.

Even if you wanted the chip, and the mounted fog light it's about £150 worth of parts.
